We report on four electron paramagnetic resonance sensors for dynamic magnetic field measurements at 36 mT, 100 mT, 360 mT, and 710 mT. The sensors are based on grounded co-planar microwave resonators operating at about 1 GHz and 3 GHz, realized using prin ...

We present a fully integrated detector suitable for active tracking of interventional devices in MR-guided interventions. The single-chip microsystem consists of a detection coil, a tuning capacitor, an intermediate frequency downconversion receiver, and a ...

The production of antihydrogen atoms H̄0 ≡ p̄e+ has been observed by the PS210 collaboration at LEAR. The method assumes an e+e- -pair creation via the two-photon mechanism in the antiproton-nucleus interaction. Neutral H̄0 atoms are identified by a unique sequence of characteristics. The typical signature of eleven produced antihydrogen atoms is reported including possibly 2±1 background signals. The observed yield agrees with theoretical predictions.

The goal of the project is to fabricate ultra sensitive cantilevers for magnetic resonance force microscopy. Such devices have been produced using SOI wafers and a novel fabrication process combining Al encapsulation and HF-vapor release. The realized cantilevers are 200, 350 or 500 µm long, 10 or 20 µm wide and 500 or 340 nm thick. The characterization shows promising results in vacuum at room temperature, e.g. a cantilever annealed at 800°C (L=500um, w=10um, t=0.5um) has a resonance frequency f = 2kHz, a

A microscopic four-point probe (micro4PP) for resistivity measurements on thin films was designed and fabricated using the negative photoresist SU-8 as base material. The device consists of four microscopic cantilevers, each of them supporting a probe tip ...

In this paper a novel architecture for an integrated NMR receiver front-end for surgical guidance applications is described. While the chip consumes only 9 mA supply current from a 3.3 V power supply it has a measured input referred noise density of 0.7 nV ...

Micro-Hall sensors made of Bi have been previously fabricated and have shown interesting properties for magnetic field detection. In this project, new ideas to improve the performance of these Hall sensors and to explore ferromagnetic metals are developed. Ni and Bi protected with Al2O3 are used as materials to realize the sensing element. Different thicknesses between 10 and 100 nm of Ni and Bi are deposited by evaporation and structured with lift-off. The electrodes are made of Ti/Al. A Pt thin film is de

Grayscale structured surfaces with nanometer-scale features are used in a growing number of applications in optics and fluidics. Thermal scanning probe lithography achieves a lateral resolution below 10 nm and a vertical resolution below 1 nm, but its maxi ...

In this work, we present a novel electrochemical cleaning procedure for long-term electrochemical monitoring of propofol by using boron-doped diamond (BDD) and pencil graphite electrode (PGE). Propofol is an anesthetic that is widely used for long-lasting ...

We have developed a new hybrid AFM probe combining an SU-8 polymer body with a full tungsten cantilever having a nanometric tip. The fabrication is based on surface micromachining a silicon wafer, where tungsten is sputter deposited in oxidation sharpened ...

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy enables non-invasive chemical studies of intact living matter. However, the use of NMR at the volume scale typical of microorganisms is hindered by sensitivity limitations, and experiments on single intact orga ...

The aim of the project is the development of a new technology for the fabrication of bismuth (Bi) micro-nano Hall sensors integrated on plastic cantilevers. Bi, a semi-metal, is deposited by evaporation and structured by lift-off. Four electrodes made with Ti-Al are deposited and structured in the same way as Bi. SU-8 cantilevers and carrier chip are structured by photolithography process. The smallest size of the Hall sensor active area obtained with the photolithography was 2 x 2 um2 and was reduced to th

Hall devices having an active area of about (500 nm)2 are fabricated by focused electron-beam-induced deposition. The deposited material consists of cobalt nanoparticles in a carbonaceous matrix. The realized devices have, at room temperature, a current se ...

In article number 2000733 by Juergen Brugger and co‐workers, a novel composite membrane of silk fibroin, microgels and magnetic nanoparticles whose permeability can be adjusted by temperature for controlled drug release is studied. The temperature induced ...

We report the fabrication and characterization of nickel Hall sensors integrated on SU-8 cantilevers. Sensors having active area down to 1x1 μm 2 show a magnetic field resolution better than 1μT/Hz 1/2 in the thermal noise frequency range. The fabricated d ...

By shining millimeter waves upon a sample, Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) provides a way to enhance Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) signals. Here we report on our efforts to realize a tunable gyrotron at 263.5 GHz and design consideration for coupling a millimeter wave Gaussian beam (GB) to the DNP/NMR probe.

We report here on a new method to release functional SU-8 micro-components with embedded and integrated metal electrodes from the surface, based on isotropic SF6 dry etching of a poly-silicon sacrificial layer. This new fast and clean release technique allows a reproducible fabrication of SU-8 structures with integrated metal devices without risk of damage or altering their performance.

Capillary-assisted particle assembly (CAPA) in predefined topographical templates is a scalable method for the precise positioning of nanoscale objects on various surfaces. High-resolution CAPA templates are typically fabricated by expensive electron-beam ...

Glass-like carbon (GC) has been widely used in micro-nano devices due to its excellent properties such as hardness, biocompatibility, and chemical inertness. In this work we investigate, for the first time, the piezoresistive behavior of GC in view of its ...
