Using a highly sensitive silicon Hall sensor fabricated in a standard complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, we detect a single magnetic microbead of 2.8 μm in diameter. The miniaturized sensor has an active area of 2.4×2.4 μm 2, a sensitivity of 175 V/AT and a resistance of 8.5 k. Two detection methods, both exploiting the superparamagnetic behavior of the bead, are experimentally tested and their performances are compared. This work opens the way to the fabrication of low cost microsys

Images directly visualizing the spatial spin-diffusion process are reported. The measurements were performed using a magnetic resonance force microscope. The field gradient associated with the forcedetection experiment is large enough to affect the spin dy ...

Glass-like carbon (GC) is a nongraphitizing material composed entirely of carbon atoms produced from selected organic polymer resins by controlled pyrolysis in an inert atmosphere. The GC properties are a combination of the properties of glass, ceramic, an ...

High-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) based on 2-D electron gases (2DEGs) in III-V heterostructures have superior mobility compared with the transistors of silicon-based complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor technologies. The large mobility makes th ...

In this paper we present the fabrication and characterization of highly sensitive cantilevers, with and without magnetic tip, used for magnetic resonance force microscopy experiments. The full wafer silicon batch microfabrication was successful and the ach ...

In this paper a novel architecture for an integrated receiver front-end for micro magnetic resonance imaging (micro-MRI) applications is described. While the chip consumes only 9mA supply current (4mA in the LNA and 5mA in the output buffer) from a 33V pow ...

We present a new strategy for the fabrication of long meander-like metallic patterns based on the use of nano-bridges to stabilize fragile SiN stencils. Continuous metal traces are obtained by taking advantage of a controllable blurring effect introduced by an appropriate gap between the stencil and the substrate. The SEM, AFM and electrical measurement results indicate that continuous, conductive metal traces are successfully produced. Our results are a case study on a SiN substrate that can be extended to

Field-effect transistors (FETs) based on two-dimensional materials (2DMs) with atomically thin channels have emerged as a promising platform for beyond-silicon electronics. However, low carrier mobility in 2DM transistors driven by phonon scattering remain ...

We present a three dimensional (3D) microenvironment for on-chip cell culture, with engineered geometrical and mechanical properties. The device, named mu-flower, is based on micorfabricated cantilever beams bent out of plane by the intrinsic stresses of a ...

We have developed a robust and universal method to transfer functionalized SU-8 microparts with metallic patterns by laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) technique. To overcome the difficulty of metal patterning on high-aspect ratio SU-8 microparts on the donor substrate, we utilize a stencil lithography method. The influence of laser energy and SU-8 thickness on the micropart transfer result is systematically studied, and we find the optimized parameter combination to guarantee damage-free transfer. Vario

Anewmicrosystem with the ability to detect magnetic microstructures based on the non-invasive Hall principle is presented. The micro-Hall plate embedded in the microsystem and scaled down to the physical limits of the employedCMOStechnology has an active a ...

A technology for the fabrication of bismuth Hall sensors integrated on SU-8 cantilevers has been developed in this project. Hall sensors with active area of 2 x 2 μm2 (Fig.2) are produced with lift-off and resized to 200 x 200 nm2 (Fig.3) with the FIB. SU-8 cantilevers containing the sensors are characterized as well as the magnetic properties of the sensors.

We report here a new method to release functional SU-8 micro-cantilevers with embedded metal electrodes from the surface, based on isotropic SF6 dry etching of a poly-silicon sacrificial layer. This new fast and clean release technique allows a reproducible fabrication of SU-8 structures with integrated metal devices without risk of damage or altering their performance.

Hyperpolarization via dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a versatile method to dramatically enhance the liquid-state NMR signal of X-nuclei and can be used for performing metabolic and molecular imaging. It was recently demonstrated that ins ...

We report on two ferrimagnetic resonance (FMR) sensors for absolute dynamic magnetic field measurements at 36 and 100 mT. The sensors are designed to mark precisely and reproducibly the moment when a time-transient magnetic field attains a specific value. ...

In this article, we present an integrated broadband complementary metal-oxide semiconductor single-chip transceiver suitable for the realization of multi-nuclear pulsed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probes. The realized single-chip transceiver can be in ...

Performing chemical analysis at the nanoliter (nL) scale is of paramount importance for medicine, drug development, toxicology, and research. Despite the numerous methodologies available, a tool for obtaining chemical information non-invasively is still mi ...

We report on the design and characterization of a single-chip electron spin resonance detector, operating at a frequency of about 20 GHz and in a temperature range extending at least from 300 K down to 4 K. The detector consists of an LC oscillator formed ...
