Nowadays, incorporating innovative teaching methods that enhance student engagement has become increasingly crucial. In our study, we examine a new pedagogical practice which relies on gamified formative peer assessment and social media to improve student ...

This paper discusses challenges in enabling teleoperation over the Inter net for the specific case of real systems which exhibit fast dynamics.A distributed client-server architecture is proposed to provide the necessary level of interactiv ity for supervision and tuning, without compromising the essential control tasks. Enabling features include real-time simulation and augmented-reality visualization to enhance the user perception of the distant ongoing operations. The proposed approach is illustrated throu

In recent years, the use of chatbots in education has been driven by advances in natural language processing and the increasing availability of digital education platforms. Although the added value of educational chatbots appears promising, researchers hav ...

SDSS-V project is one of the major observational cosmological projects which aims to generate the map of the observable universe by collecting spectroscopic data from the sky using optical fibers. Each optical fiber is attached to a robotic positioner to b ...

Apps supporting social networking in proximity are gaining momentum as they enable both augmenting face-to-face interaction with a digital channel (e.g. classroom interaction systems) and augmenting digital interaction by providing a local real life feelin ...

This paper presents a convenient way to invert the classical Preisach model to compensate the hysteresis of a piezoelectric stack actuator in real-time. The advantage of the proposed method lies in the possibility to track a stochastic signal and compensat ...

Social practices are assumed to play an important role in the evolution of new teaching and learning methods. Teachers internalize knowledge developed in their communities through interactions with peers and experts while solving problems or co-creating ma ...

Remote experimentation is an effective e-learning paradigm for supporting hands-on education using laboratory equipment at distance. The current trend is to enable remote experimentation in mobile and ubiquitous learning. In such a context, the remote expe ...

While chatbots are commonly used to support software developers with repetitive tasks, their use in programming education is still limited, particularly for students in non-technical domains. To better understand the potential for chatbots to support progr ...

The trend towards generalized blended and active learning approaches in engineering education is redefining the requirements and the deployment schemes for digital education platforms. This paper presents a quadriptych techno- pedagogical model highlightin ...

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the use of chatbots for educational purposes. Nevertheless, the chatbot technologies and architectures that are often applied to educational contexts are not necessarily designed for such contexts. Whi ...

In this chapter, the concept of Personal Learning Environment is first refined taken into account recent advances and the experience gathered in a European research project dedicated to responsive open learning environments. A prototypal implementation of a Web 2.0 platform enabling the construction, the sharing, and the repurposing of personal learning environments is then introduced. Participatory design and validation activities carried out in the framework of higher education test beds aiming at underst

The need to ensure privacy and data protection in educational contexts is driving a shift towards new ways of securing and managing learning records. Although there are platforms available to store educational activity traces outside of a central repositor ...

A smart campus provides students who are geographically scattered with online tools to get access to learning resources and laboratories. Although these remote laboratories have the potential and capabilities to implement different learning experiments, mo ...

This paper proposes a novel approach for collision avoidance between Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with limited range and field of view sensors. The algorithm is designed for unicycle vehicles that need to fly above a specific minimal speed to maintain f ...

Real-time Interaction over the Internet (RTI2) is an Internet service that is required typically by remote experimentation applications. From a quality of service (QoS) point of view, RTI2 has constraints that differ from usual real-time multimedia service ...

Timely access to critical information is crucial for any organization operating in situations of emergency. Deploying an adequate information system tailored to specific organizational needs and matched to the organizational structure is essential. To unde ...

This paper introduces the systematic approach currently used by the Department of Computer Science and Automatic Control of the Spanish University of Distance Learning (UNED) to develop Web-based laboratories for distance learning of topics with high techn ...
