Cellular thermoplastic structures with hierarchical multi-scale porosity (preferably 1-300 µm micro-porosity to 0.3-10 mm macro-porosity) are produced from an integrated approach of 3D printing, preferably by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), and of supercr ...

Humeral head translations (HHT) play a crucial role in the glenohumeral (GH) joint function. The available shoulder musculoskeletal models developed based on inverse dynamics however fall short of predicting the HHT. This study aims at developing a simulat ...

The estimation of muscle forces in musculoskeletal shoulder models is still controversial. Two different methods are widely used to solve the indeterminacy of the system: electromyography (EMG)-based methods and stress-based methods. The goal of this work ...

Mechanical stimulation has been proposed to induce chondrogenesis in cell-seeded scaffold. However, the effects of mechanical stimuli on engineered cartilage may vary substantially between different scaffolds. This advocates for the need to identify an ove ...

The objective of this Master will be to assess if small amounts of augmentation material placed adjacent to the cortical layer can significantly affect pullout strength. This augmentation has been predicted by a numerical study. The obtained experimental data wil then be compared to the predicted theoretical values

The project consists of: - mechanical tests of the prototype of the new implant and comparison to existing anterior fixation systems in a bone model material; - a literature review in order to classify the test results; - the development of a finite element model for the tension case, which will be validated by the mechanical tests.

In lower cancellous apparent bone density, it can be difficult to achieve adequate screw fixation and hence stable fracture fixation. Different strategies have been proposed, one of them is through augmentation using calcium phosphate cement in the region ...

Deep learning models (DLM) are efficient replacements for computationally intensive optimization techniques. Musculoskeletal models (MSM) typically involve resource-intensive optimization processes for determining joint and muscle forces. Consequently, DLM ...

Previous clinical studies have reported associations between glenoid inclination (GI), the acromion index (AI), and the critical shoulder angle (CSA) on the one hand and the occurrence of glenohumeral osteoarthritis and supraspinatus tendon tears on the ot ...

A combined experimental/numerical study was performed to calculate the zone of highest strain in a rat tibia loaded axially. This study is motivated by the fact that the bone remodeling analysis in this in vivo rat model should be performed at the zone of ...

Granular hydrogels with high stability, strength, and toughness are laborious to develop. Post-curing is often employed to bind microgels chemically and enhance mechanical properties. Here a unique strategy was investigated to maintain microgels together w ...

The invention provides for a bioactive composition comprising solid particles, such as e.g. calcium phosphate particles, loaded with an active agent, preferably an osteoconductive/osteoinductive agent or an anti-resorptive agent like a bisphosphonate. The ...

Poly(oxyethylene 20 sorbitan) monolaurate (Tween® 20) methacrylates were synthesized by coupling methacryloyl chloride (MeOCl) to Tween 20 in the presence of 4-(N,N-dimethylamino) pyridine, using THF as a solvent, in order to investigate their suitability ...

Videogrammetry is commonly used to record upper limb motions. However, it cannot track the glenohumeral joint center (GH). GH is required to reconstruct upper limb motions. Therefore, it is often estimated by separately measuring scapular motions using sca ...

There is described a mouthguard comprising an externally exposed impact protective region defined by a first material property and configured to cover a front tooth, an internally exposed occlusional cushioning region defined by a second material property ...

Why do we need to improve the outcome of orthopedic implants? What is the clinical situation for orthopedic implant used as drug delivery system? Is the research for orthopedic drug delivery system advanced enough to translate it to clinical applications? Will drug delivery systems be the future for orthopaedic implants? References

Background. Intra-articular techniques (single and double bundles) are the most widely used procedures for the anterior cruciate lig- ament reconstruction. Lemaire introduced in 1967 the extra-articular techniques, and combined intra-articular and extra-ar ...

Hydrogels are widely used in the biomedical field. Their main purposes are either to deliver biological active agents or to temporarily fill a defect until they degrade and are followed by new host tissue formation. However for this latter application, bio ...
