Recent advances in silicon nitride integrated photonics have achieved ultralow optical losses. Transferring this technology to standard commercial foundries, and merging it with silicon photonics via heterogeneous integration, will seed novel laser and qua ...

We demonstrate a process for hydrogen-free low-loss silicon oxide (SiO2) films deposited using S iCl4 and O 2 as precursors. A wide low-loss window from 1260 nm to 1625 nm is achieved at a deposition temperature of 300 ◦C, essential for next generation pho ...

We demonstrate sub-nanosecond wavelength switching, using a chip-based soliton microcomb and a semiconductor optical amplifier-based wavelength selector. 50-Gbps PAM4 transmission is achieved with discrete components and 25-Gbps NRZ with a photonic integra ...

We present a novel compact dual-comb source based on a monolithic optical crystalline MgF2 multi-resonator stack. The coherent soliton combs generated in the two microresonators of the stack with the repetition rate of 12.1 GHz and difference of 1.62 MHz p ...

We demonstrate the first EDWA-enabled Terabit-class coherent optical communication with 1.6-Tb/s net bit rate per channel and 16 -channel WDM transmission over 81 -km fiber, proving the potential of such on-chip amplification for future coherent applicatio ...

We demonstrate soliton based radiofrequency filters using a 104 GHz Si3N4 microresonator. The filter passband frequencies are widely reconfigured via inherent soliton states of perfect soliton crystals and two-soliton microcombs, without any external pulse ...

Recent developments of self-injection locking of a DFB laser with an ultra-high Q resonator have enabled unprecedented low-noise performance of coherent light sources. We review the demonstration of ultra-narrow linewidth laser and microcombs in integrated ...

The availability of thin-film lithiumniobate on insulator (LNOI) and advances in processing have led to the emergence of fully integrated LiNbO3 electro-optic devices. Yet to date, LiNbO3 photonic integrated circuits have mostly been fabricated using non-s ...

Optical frequency combs enable precision measurements in fundamental physics and have been applied to a growing number of applications, such as molecular spectroscopy, LIDAR and atmospheric trace-gas sensing. In recent years, the generation of frequency co ...

We propose a scheme to prepare a macroscopic mechanical oscillator in a catlike state, close to a coherent state superposition. The mechanical oscillator, coupled by radiation-pressure interaction to a field in an optical cavity, is first prepared close to ...

Mode-locked lasers (MLLs), capable of generating ultrashort coherent pulses, have been instrumental for numerous applications, including optical frequency metrology, eye surgery, machining, additive manufacturing, imaging and spectroscopy. However, commerc ...

A silicon nitride optical ring isolator is realized by spatiotemporal modulation using bulk acoustic wave stress-optical transducers. By driving three actuators with fixed relative phases, over 17 dB isolation is achieved. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

We introduce a novel architecture for parallel frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser ranging (LiDAR). Using dual soliton microcombs, we demonstrate a parallel distance measurement with 24 channels requiring only a single FMCW pump laser and cohe ...

The present invention concerns an energy dispersion calibration method for calibrating an electron spectrometer of an electron spectrometer system including at least one electron emission source, electron optics and the electron spectrometer. The method co ...

We demonstrate integrated optical continuous-travelling-wave parametric amplifiers that significantly surpass the amplification bandwidth of traditional Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers. Using a 5.55-cm-long integrated gallium phosphide waveguide, we achieve ...

Optical soliton molecules are bound states of solitons that arise from the balance between attractive and repulsive effects. Having been observed in systems ranging from optical fibres to mode-locked lasers, they provide insights into the fundamental inter ...

Ring resonators have proven to be extremely successful for generation of temporal dissipative Kerr solitons, but their dispersion engineering is limited. We present a photonic-crystal Fabry-Perot resonator with record-high quality factors in gallium phosph ...

We have stabilized an external cavity diode laser to a whispering gallery mode resonator formed by a protrusion of a single-crystal magnesium fluoride cylinder. The cylinder's compact dimensions (less than or similar to 1 cm(3)) reduce the sensitivity to v ...

We demonstrate a fully hybrid integrated electrooptic comb generator based on a dispersion engineered thin-film Lithium Tantalate microresonator featuring robust turnkey operation and record-broad >200nm span covering the entire telecommunications S, C, an ...

We experimentally demonstrate pump-linewidth-tolerant wavelength multicasting using microresonator-based soliton Kerr frequency combs. When Kerr comb lines serve as coherent pumps in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide, the linewidth of the mult ...
