An approach for a low-power chip-scale package is described, that provides a laser output with a programmable frequency across 50 nm of bandwidth centered at 1550 nm, and a resolution of one part in 10(14). ...

Nonlinear wave mixing in optical microresonators new perospects for compact optical frequency combs with many promising applications. We demonstrate simultaneous generation of multiple frequency combs from a single optical microresonator and a single conti ...

We enter a bichromatically-pumped multistability regime in a microresonator to observe the emergence of complex dynamics of dissipative Kerr soliton interactions, including short-range soliton binding and periodic soliton collision. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

A signal processing apparatus, being configured for transmitting and receiving coherent parallel optical signals, comprises a transmitter apparatus including a first single soliton micro-resonator device and a modulator device, wherein the first single sol ...

Coherent interconversion between microwave and optical frequencies can serve as both classical and quantum interfaces for computing, communication, and sensing. Here, we present a compact microwave-optical transducer based on monolithic integration of piez ...

Cooling a mesoscopic mechanical oscillator to its quantum ground state is elementary for the preparation and control of quantum states of mechanical objects. Here, we pre-cool a 70-MHz micromechanical silica oscillator to an occupancy below 200 quanta by t ...

We experimentally achieve optical time multiplexing of multiple Nyquist channels. A single microresonator Kerr comb allows the generation of multiple Nyquist sinc shaped pulse trains. TDM of pulse trains are obtained through wavelength conversion inside a ...

We generate a biphoton frequency comb from an integrated 40.4 GHz silicon nitride microring and probe the phase coherence through electro-optic mixing of the frequency bins followed by time-resolved detection of the time-correlation function. (c) 2021 The ...

We demonstrate hybrid integration of an RSOA with an extended-distributed Bragg reflector (E-DBR) laser cavity implemented on a Si3N4 chip with monolithically integrated piezoactuators. The laser exhibits intrinsic linewidth of 4 Hz with laser frequency tu ...

We demonstrate piezoelectric actuators monolithically integrated on ultralow-loss Si3N4 waveguides. Varying the voltage applied on the actuator allows microresonator tuning, and to initiate, switch, stabilize and tightly phase lock the single soliton micro ...

We demonstrate optical frequency comb generation in hybrid high-Q optical microresonators fabricated using direct wafer bonding of photonic Damascene silicon nitride wafer with thin-film lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI). The devices enable direct phase ...

We observed a novel 1/f-type frequency noise in Lithium Niobate and Lithium Tantalate microresonators, distinct from thermorefractive noise and originating from thermodynamic charge fluctuations, setting the linewidth limits for integrated lasers. A charge ...

We experimentally observed the Raman-induced self-frequency shift of high-intensity dissipative Kerr solitons in high-Q silicon nitride microresonators. The Raman redshift is linearly dependent on the pump-frequency-detuning, associated with the tunability ...

Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWGs) are ubiquitous and efficient photonic devices used to split and combine different wavelengths of light. They have been widely used as (de)-multiplexer for wavelength division multiplexed optical communication systems, and ...

Since their discovery microresonator-based frequency combs have drawn a lot of interest due to their compact form factor and potential for integration. We report on the recent progress regarding dissipative Kerr solitons generated from photonic chip-based ...

We demonstrate plasmon-mechanical coupling in a metalized nanomechanical oscillator. A coupled surface plasmon is excited in the 25 nm wide gap between two metalized silicon nitride beams. The strong plasmonic dispersion allows the nanomechanical beams the ...

Using phase-modulation-induced potential gradient whose period is synchronized to a microwave opto-electronic oscillator, dissipative Kerr solitons generated in a crystalline optical microresonator are trapped by the soliton tweezing effect, exhibiting a s ...

The model, that is usually called the Lugiato-Lefever equation (LLE), was introduced in 1987 with the aim of providing a paradigm for dissipative structure and pattern formation in nonlinear optics. This model, describing a driven, detuned and damped nonli ...

Efficient second harmonic generation in integrated platforms is usually achieved by resonant structures, intermodal phase-matching or quasi-phase matching by periodically poling ferroelectric waveguides. However, in all these structures, it is impossible t ...

We employ silica microspheres to detect and actuate nanomechanical motion. With Si3N4-nanostrings, we achieve significant passive cooling by radiation pressure. Feedback-cooling enables stable operation at optical powers beyond the parametric-instability t ...
