Bismuth Ferrite (BFO) nanoparticles (BFO-NP) display interesting optical (nonlinear response) and magnetic properties which make them amenable for bio-oriented diagnostic applications as intra- and extra membrane contrast agents. Due to the relatively rece ...

The ketonitrone 8 was prepared from D-fructose as an inexpensive starting material, and was used in a stereoselective synthesis of 1-deoxymannojirimycin (4), its previously unknown N-hydroxy analogue 15, as well as the polyhydroxylated ketonitrone 14. The ...

The emergence of the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) arose the need for rapid, accurate and massive virus detection methods to control the spread of infectious diseases. In this work, a device, deployable in non-medical environments, has been developed for the ...

Here we present a processing route to produce multi-structured ceramic foams based on the combination of particle-stabilized foams with polymeric sponges to produce positive and negative templating structures. Polyester sponges are infiltrated with freshly ...

Background: The quantification of total (free + sulfated) metanephrines in urine is recommended to diagnose pheochromocytoma. Urinary metanephrines include metanephrine itself, normetanephrine and methoxytyramine, mainly in the form of sulfate conjugates ( ...

New substituted pyrrolidine-3,4-diol derivatives were prepared from D-(-)- and L-(+)-phenyl glycinol. The influence of the configuration and the substitution of the lateral side chain of these derivatives on the inhibition of 25 commercial glycosidases wer ...

Surface functionalization of hydroxyapatite (HA) and β-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) bioceramics with chemical ligands containing a pyrrogallol moiety was developed to improve the adhesion of bone cell precursors to the biomaterials. Fast and biocompatible co ...

As current chemo- and photodynamic cancer therapies are associated with severe side effects due to a lack of specificity and to systemic toxicity, innovative solutions in terms of targeting and controlled functionality are in high demand. Here, we present ...

Cell microencapsulation and subsequent transplantation of the microencapsulated cells require multidisciplinary approaches. Physical, chemical, biological, engineering, and medical expertise has to be combined. Several natural and synthetic polymeric mater ...

Transverse and longitudinal relaxation times (T11 and T1) have been widely exploited in NMR to probe the binding of ligands and putative drugs to target proteins. We have shown recently that long-lived states (LLS) can be more sensitive to ligand binding. ...

In order to assess the therapeutic potential of cell-based strategies, it is of paramount importance to elaborate and validate new tools for monitoring the behavior of injected cells in terms of tissue dissemination and engraftment properties. Here, we app ...

The development of multifunctional encapsulation biomaterials could help the translation of cell‐based therapies into standard medical care. One of the major hurdles in the field of encapsulated cell transplantation is the current lack of materials present ...

meso-1,1'-Methylenedi[(1R,1'S,3R,3'S,5S,5'R)-3-hydroxy-S-oxabicyclo[3.2. 1]oct-6-ene-1-yl] 14 obtained through the [4+3]-cycloaddition of 2,T-methylenedifuran to oxyallyl cation, followed by reduction, has been desymmetrized by means of a lipase catalyzed ...

The chemical functionalization of cell-surface proteins of human primary fetal bone cells with hydrophilic bioorthogonal intermediates was investigated. Toward this goal, chemical pathways were developed for click reaction-mediated coupling of alkyne deriv ...

The development of efficient routes to multi gram quantities of chiral synthons is a key issue in total synthesis of natural products and analogues. The conformationally defined and rigid 8-oxabicyclo[3.2.1]oct-6-en-3-one template appears as an appealing s ...

DNA biosensors are promising candidates for the development of point-of-care diagnosis methods. They can be inserted in microfluidic platforms, are often non-expensive, and can be produced for a variety of targeted analytes. However, their development face ...

There is an increasing interest in cationic polymers as important constituents of non-viral gene delivery vectors. In the present study, we developed a versatile synthetic route for the production of covalent polymeric conjugates consisting of water-solubl ...

Neonatal and juvenile porcine islet cell clusters (ICC) present an unlimited source for islet xenotransplantation to treat type 1 diabetes patients. We isolated ICC from pancreata of 14 days old juvenile piglets and characterized their maturation by immuno ...

Many natural products of biological interest contain [6,5]- and [6,6]-spiroketal moieties that can adopt various configurations, benefiting or not from anomeric conformation stabilizing effects. The spiroketal fragments are often important for the biologic ...

Gene therapy emerged as a promising treatment option for acquired and inherited diseases. The delivery of nucleic acids relies on vectors that condense and encapsulate their cargo. Especially non-viral gene delivery systems are of increasing interest. Howe ...
