This version includes updates to use weighted PCA in heteroscedastic noise estimation. This set of Jupyter notebooks are used in the analysis of hyperspectral datasets with the hyperspy library. The file "clmap_type-IIB_HPHT_diamond-spikes_removed.hspy" ...

Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) nanowires constitute prospective building blocks for next generation solar cellsdue to the combination of suitable optoelectronic properties and an abundance of the constitutingelements in the Earth’s crust. The generation of periodi ...

The rational design of catalysts is crucial to make power-to-X technologies viable. Here the authors introduce the delafossite PdCoO2 as a highly active hydrogen evolution reaction catalyst due to the growth of a tensile-strained Pd-rich capping layer unde ...

Semiconductor nanowires have increased the palette of possible heterostructures thanks to their more effective strain relaxation. Among these core shell heterostructures are much more sensitive to strain than axial Ones. It is now accepted that the formati ...

A corner-overgrown GaAsAlGaAs heterostructure is investigated with transmission and scanning transmission electron microscopy, demonstrating self-limiting growth of an extremely sharp corner profile 3.5 nm wide. In the AlGaAs layers, we observe self-ordere ...

III-V semiconductor nanowires (NWs) are promising building blocks for next generation solar energy conversion at low cost. NW ensembles constitute a new class of metamaterial, where the optical properties of the array are tuned by the individual NW type, g ...

State-of-the art models for statistical properties within the nanowire ensembles consider influx of precursors, reflection and surface diffusion of adatoms. These models predict a delay in the nanowire growth start and the evolution toward an asymmetric le ...

Germanium nanowires were synthesized using thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and indium as a catalyst. The process parameter space for successful growth was studied. By optimizing the growth temperature and gas pressure, high aspect ratio germanium n ...

Ga-catalyzed growth of GaAs nanowires on Si is a candidate process for achieving seamless III/V integration on IV. In this framework, the nature of silicon's surface oxide is known to have a strong influence on nanowire growth and orientation and therefore ...

We demonstrate nonlinear coupling between two orthogonal flexural modes of single as-grown GaAs nanowires. The resonant frequency of one mode can be shifted over many line widths by mechanically driving the other mode. We present time-domain measurements o ...

Semiconducting piezoelectric materials have attracted considerable interest due to their central role in the emerging field of piezotronics, where the development of a piezo-potential in response to stress or strain can be used to tune the band structure o ...

The structural and optical properties of GaAs nanowire with mixed zinc-blende/wurtzite structure are presented. High resolution transmission electron microscopy indicates the presence of a variety of shorter and longer segments of zinc-blende or wurtzite c ...

Two-dimensional semiconductors, in particular transition metal dichalcogenides and related heterostructures, have gained increasing interest as they constitute potential new building blocks for the next generation of electronic and optoelectronic applicati ...

The fundamental limits for the measurement of the efficiency of single nanowire solar cell devices are presented. We evaluate the effect of the substrate, light polarization, and existence of Mie resonances in the absorption of the solar spectrum for nanow ...

We investigate the magnetization reversal mechanism in an individual permalloy (Py) nanotube (NT) using a hybrid magnetometer consisting of a nanometer-scale SQUID (nanoSQUID) and a cantilever torque sensor. The Py NT is affixed to the tip of a Si cantilev ...

The structural and electronic properties of nonstoichiometric low-temperature grown GaAs nanowire shells have been investigated with scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy, pump probe reflectivity, and cathodoluminescence measurements. The growth o ...

GaAs nanowires were heated locally under ambient air conditions by a focused laser beam which led to oxidation and formation of crystalline arsenic on the nanowire surface. Atomic force microscopy, photoluminescence and Raman spectroscopy experiments were ...

Nanowire (NW) crystal growth via the vapour-liquid-solid mechanism is a complex dynamic process involving interactions between many atoms of various thermodynamic states. With increasing speed over the last few decades many works have reported on various a ...

Germanium (Ge) nanowires hold great promise as building blocks for hole spin-based quantum processors. Realizing this potential requires their direct integration onto silicon (Si) wafers. This work introduces V-groove-confined selective epitaxy to enable t ...

Novel preparative approaches towards lamellar nanocomposites of carbon and inorganic materials are relevant for a broad range of technological applications. Here, we describe how to utilize the co-assembly of a liquid-crystalline hexaphenylene amphiphile a ...
