Holes in germanium nanowires have emerged as a realistic platform for quantum computing based on spin qubit logic. On top of the large spin–orbit coupling that allows fast qubit operation, nanowire geometry and orientation can be tuned to cancel out charge ...

Indium was used as a catalyst for the synthesis of silicon nanowires in a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition reactor. In order to foster the catalytic activity of indium, the indium droplets had to be exposed to a hydrogen plasma prior to nanowire g ...

Selective area epitaxy (SAE) provides the path for scalable fabrication of semiconductor nanostructures in a device-compatible configuration. In the current paradigm, SAE is understood as localized epitaxy, and is modelled by combining planar and self-asse ...

To date, the use of gold for the synthesis of nanowires has proven to be nearly impossible to circumvent, regardless of the potential negative effects on the nanowires physical properties. In this paper, the synthesis of gallium arsenide nanowires without ...

We study doping and metallization of black silicon (bSi) boron emitters formed by ion implantation or diffusion. We demonstrate that conformal metal layers can be deposited on bSi by electron beam evaporation. Raman spectroscopy shows that high boron conce ...

The ability to rationally tune the morphology of nanostructures is a fundamental milestone in nanoscale engineering. In particular, the possibility to switch between different shapes within the same material system represents a further step in the developm ...

P-type gallium arsenide nanowires were grown with different silicon doping concentrations. The incorporation is monitored by Raman spectroscopy of the local vibrational modes. For Si-concentrations up to 1.4 x 10(18) cm(-3), silicon incorporates mainly in ...

In this work electrolyte insulator semiconductor (EIS) structures based on lithographically fabricated Si SiO2 micropillars and pores are studied. The samples are characterized by means of impedance spectroscopy (IS) and they are compared to samples with a ...

The structure of indium-catalyzed germanium nanowires is investigated by atomic force microscopy, scanning confocal Raman spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The nanowires are formed by a crystalline core and an amorphous shell. We find that ...

Surface recombination represents a handicap for high-efficiency solar cells. This is especially important for nanowire array solar cells, where the surface-to-volume ratio is greatly enhanced. Here, the effect of different passivation materials on the effe ...

The synthesis of silicon nanowires by Ga-assisted plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) has been recently demonstrated. In the present work, we study in detail the structural characteristics of the synthesized nanowires. High resolution transmi ...

There is currently an emerging drive towards computational materials design and fabrication of predicted novel materials. One of the keys to developing appropriate fabrication methods is determination of the composition and phase. Here we explore the FeGe ...

In order to realize many devices based on semiconductor nanowires, reliable doping is essential. For such devices, it is important that the electron mobility is not compromised by doping incorporation. Here, we show that core-shell GaAs/AlGaAs nanowires ca ...

We demonstrate that n-type black silicon can be passivated efficiently using Atomic Layer Deposited (ALD) Al2O3, reaching maximum surface recombination velocities below 7 cm/s. We show that the low surface recombination velocity results from a higher sensi ...

The effect of surfaces on the optical properties of GaAs nanowires is evidenced by comparing nanowires with or without an AlGaAs capping shell as a function of the diameter. We find that the optical properties of unpassivated nanowires are governed by Ferm ...

GaAs nanowires with 100% wurtzite structure are synthesized by the vapor-liquid-solid method in a molecular beam epitaxy system, using gold as a catalyst. We use resonant Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence to determine the position of the crystal-fie ...

The resistivity and mobility of carbon-doped GaAs nanowires have been studied for different doping concentrations. Surface effects have been evaluated by comparing unpassivated with passivated nanowires. We directly see the influence of the surface: the pi ...

We report on the use of photonic resonances in Raman spectroscopy on single nanowires for the enhancement of forbidden modes and the study of the interaction of phonons with free-carriers. This is achieved by suspending nanowire over a trench and detecting ...

III-V nanosttuctures have the potential to revolutionize optoelectronics and energy harvesting. For this to become a reality, critical issues such as reproducibility and sensitivity to defects should be resolved. By discussing the optical properties of mol ...

We demonstrate the directional emission of individual GaAs nanowires by coupling this emission to Yagi-Uda optical antennas. In particular, we have replaced the resonant metallic feed element of the nanoantenna by an individual nanowire and measured with t ...
