In acute ischemic stroke, the composition of the occlusive clot can be associated with the underlying pathophysiology and the response to treatment. For these reasons, it is important to characterize the clot composition from clinical scans. We examine the ...

Background: Sleep deprivation causes hippocampal injury, manifesting as neuronal damage and learning-memory impairment. These negative effects may be associated with disturbance of hippocampal glutamate and water homeostasis, which induces excessive neuron ...

Purpose: We have introduced an artificial intelligence framework, 31P-SPAWNN, in order to fully analyze phosphorus-31 (P-31) magnetic resonance spectra. The flexibility and speed of the technique rival traditional least-square fitting methods, with the per ...

Recent studies have shown that cannabis may disrupt glutamate (Glu) signaling depressing Glu tone in frequent users. Current evidence have also consistently reported lower Glu-levels in various brain regions, particularly in the medial prefrontal cortex (m ...

Ultra-short echo-time proton single voxel spectra of rat brain were obtained on a 14.1 T 26 cm horizontal bore system. At this field, the fitted linewidth in the brain tissue of adult rats was about 11 Hz. New, separated resonances ascribed to phosphocholi ...

Conventional proton MRS has been successfully utilized to noninvasively assess tissue biochemistry in conditions that result in large changes in metabolite levels. For more challenging applications, namely, in conditions which result in subtle metabolite c ...

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is an important cofactor of energy-producing pathways. The redox ratio (NAD(+)/NADH) reflects the cellular oxidoreductive state. Oxidative stress and redox dysregulation have been suggested to contribute to various n ...

The broad resonances underlying the entire (1) H NMR spectrum of the brain, ascribed to macromolecules, can influence metabolite quantification. At the intermediate field strength of 3 T, distinct approaches for the determination of the macromolecule signa ...

Purpose: To introduce the dipolectric antenna: a novel RF coil design for high-field MRI using a combination of a dipole antenna with a loop-coupled dielectric resonator antenna. ...

Glutamatergic dysfunction is implicated in schizophrenia pathoaetiology, but this may vary in extent between patients. It is unclear whether inter-individual variability in glutamate is greater in schizophrenia than the general population. We conducted met ...

Full signal intensity H-1-[C-13] NMR spectroscopy, combining a preceding C-13-editing block based on an inversion BISEP (B-1-insensitive spectral editing pulse) with a spin-echo coherence-based localization, was developed and implemented at 14.1 T. C-13 ed ...

The purposes of the current study were to introduce a Mescher-Garwood (MEGA) semi-adiabatic spin-echo full-intensity localization (MEGA-sSPECIAL) sequence with macromolecule (MM) subtraction and to compare the test-retest reproducibility of gamma-aminobuty ...

The brain requires a large amount of energy, mostly derived from the metabolism of glucose, which decreases substantially with age and neurological diseases. While mounting evidence in model organisms illustrates the central role of brain nicotinamide aden ...

To determine whether glycine can be measured at 7 T in human brain with H-1 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). ...

Purpose Carbon-13 magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C-MRS) is challenging because of the inherent low sensitivity of 13C detection and the need for radiofrequency transmission at the 1H frequency while receiving the 13C signal, the latter requiring electr ...

We have recently shown that at isotopic steady state C-13 NMR can provide a direct measurement of glycogen concentration changes, but that the turnover of glycogen was not accessible with this protocol. The aim of the present study was to design, implement ...

Recent studies at high field (7 Tesla) have reported small metabolite changes, in particular lactate and glutamate (below 0.3 μmol/g) during visual stimulation. These studies have been limited to the visual cortex because of its high energy metabolism and ...
