Schizophrenia pathophysiology implies both abnormal redox control and dysconnectivity of the prefrontal cortex, partly related to oligodendrocyte and myelin impairments. As oligodendrocytes are highly vulnerable to altered redox state, we investigated the ...

Colorectal cancer (CRC) still remains the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. This study aimed to profile the metabolic differences of colorectal cancer tissues (CCT) at different stages and sites, as compared with their distant noncancerous tissues ( ...

PurposeIn this study, we aimed to measure the apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) of major phosphorous metabolites in the human calf muscle at 7 T with a diffusion-weighted (DW)-STEAM sequence.MethodsA DW-STEAM sequence with bipolar gradients was implem ...

In vivo MRS is a non-invasive measurement technique used not only in humans, but also in animal models using high-field magnets. MRS enables the measurement of metabolite concentrations as well as metabolic rates and their modifications in healthy animals ...

BACKGROUND: Oxidative stress and glutathione (GSH) metabolism dysregulation has been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. GAG-trinucleotide repeat (TNR) polymorphisms in the glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic gene (GCLC), the rate-limiting ...

Motivation levels vary across individuals, yet the underlying mechanisms driving these differences remain elusive. The dorsomedial prefrontal cortex/dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dmPFC/dACC) and the anterior insula (aIns) play crucial roles in effort-b ...

The only currently available method to measure brain glycogen in vivo is C-13 NMR spectroscopy. Incorporation of C-13-labeled glucose (Glc) is necessary to allow glycogen measurement, but might be affected by turnover changes. Our aim was to measure glycog ...

Ketones represent an important alternative fuel for the brain under glucose hypo-metabolic conditions induced by neurological diseases or aging, however their metabolic consequences in healthy brains remain unclear. Here we report that ketones can increase ...

Purpose Reliable detection and fitting of macromolecules (MM) are crucial for accurate quantification of brain short-echo time (TE) 1H-MR spectra. An experimentally acquired single MM spectrum is commonly used. Higher spectral resolution at ultra-high fiel ...

Aging involves complex processes that impact the structure, function, and metabolism of the human brain. Declines in both structural and functional integrity along with reduced local inhibitory tone in the motor areas, as indicated by reduced γ-aminobutyri ...

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) plays a central role in the master circadian clock of the brain (the suprachiasmatic nuclei, SCN) as demonstrated in many model organisms. NAD acts as an enzyme co-factor and substrate and its modulation was found to ...

The treatments for ischemic stroke can only be administered in a narrow time-window. However, the ischemia onset time is unknown in ~30% of stroke patients (wake-up strokes). The objective of this study was to determine whether MR spectra of ischemic brain ...

To date, only a couple of functional MR spectroscopy (fMRS) studies were conducted in rats. Due to the low temporal resolution of 1H-MRS techniques, prolonged stimulation paradigms are necessary for investigating the metabolic outcome in the rat brain duri ...

A new and efficient magnetisation transfer P-31 magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MT-P-31-MRF) approach is introduced to measure the creatine kinase metabolic rate kCK

{k}_{\mathrm{CK}}

between phosphocreatine (PCr) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) i ...

Proton T(1) relaxation times of metabolites in the human brain have not previously been published at 7 T. In this study, T(1) values of CH(3) and CH(2) group of N-acetylaspartate and total creatine as well as nine other brain metabolites were measured in o ...

gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA), as the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, is extremely important for maintaining healthy brain function, and deviations from GABA homeostasis are related to various brain diseases. Short-echo-time (short-TE) proton MR spec ...

Astrocytes have recently become a major center of interest in neurochemistry with the discoveries on their major role in brain energy metabolism. An interesting way to probe this glial contribution is given by in vivo 13C NMR spectroscopy coupled with the ...

In vivo (13) C MRS at high field benefits from an improved SNR and spectral resolution especially when using surface coils in combination with adiabatic pulses, such as the adiabatic half-passage (AHP) pulse for (13) C excitation. However, the excitation p ...

Purpose This assesses the potential of measuring lactate in the human brain using three non-editing MRS methods at 7T and compares the accuracy and precision of the methods. Methods H-1 MRS data were measured in the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex usi ...

Purpose: Phosphorus MRS (31P MRS) enables noninvasive assessment of energy metabolism, yet its application is hindered by sensitivity limitations. To overcome this, often high magnetic fields are used, leading to challenges such as spatial (Formula present ...
