We demonstrate a novel method for fabricating single crystal diamond diffraction gratings based on crystallographic etching that yields high-quality diffraction gratings from commercially available diamond plates. Both V-groove and rectangular gratin ...

Engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) are key drivers for the development of highly sophisticated new technologies. As all new attainments, the rapidly increasing used of ENMs raise concerns about their safety for the environment and humans. There is growing evi ...

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is known to play a multifaceted role in cell physiology mechanisms involving oxidative stress and intracellular signal transduction. Therefore, the development of analytical tools providing information on the dynamics of H2O2 gener ...

Surface patterning using plasmonic nanoparticles has attracted increasing interest owing to their wide use in sensing, imaging and medical applications. In this report we demonstrate bottom-up engineering of size distribution of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) ...

Our research is centered on the engineering of structures at the mesoscopic length scale. Patterns between the micrometer and nanometer bridge molecules and biological cells to microelectronics and microsystems, and further to the macroworld, and vice versa. Standard photo-resist based lithography and micro/nano-fabrication methods, however, reach limits when applied to advanced micro- and nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS). New alternative nanopatterning methods, such as local vacuum deposition thr

We propose a novel lithography method based on local deposition through miniature shadow-masks (nanostencils) for the fabrication of silicon based nanoelectronics devices. The method allows patterning of sub 100nm scale metal structures in a reproducible way that can subsequently be transferred into silicon by dry etching, and further reduced by controlled oxidation. The stencil technique allows rapid prototyping experiments as well as large area high-throughput nanopatterning. The process is not using phot

We establish a general method to bridge the gap between full-field electromagnetic calculations and equivalent lumped circuit elements to describe the optical response of plasmonic nanostnictures. The exact value of each lumped element is extracted from on ...

The spatial evolution of compositions and sub-structures inside focused-electron-beam-deposited tips from dicobalt-octacarbonyl Co2(CO)8 precursor at 25 keV and varying beam current (20 pA - 3 A) is extensively studied for the first time by means of energy ...

Single nanoantenna spectroscopy was carried out on realistic dipole nanoantennas with various arm lengths and gap sizes fabricated by electron-beam lithography. A significant difference in resonance wavelength between realistic and ideal nanoantennas was f ...

The cyclic RGD (cRGD) peptide ligands of cells have become widely used for treating several cancers. We report a highly sensitive analysis of c(RGDfC) using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) using single dimer nanogap antennas in aqueous environme ...

Silver (Ag) nanostructures and thin films are advantageous plasmonic materials as they have significantly lower losses than gold (Au). Unfortunately, Ag nanostructures suffer from poor chemical and thermal stability, which limit their applications. Here, t ...

We propose a novel lithography method based on local deposition through miniature shadow-masks (nanostencils) for the fabrication of silicon based nanoelectronics devices. We demonstrate the fabrication of nanowires with a CMOS compatible stencil based lithography process. The silicon nitride (SiN) stencil is fabricated using optical lithography combined with procedures. Then 45 nm wide structures are made using focused ion beam (FIB) milling. The process results in a 110 nm wide silicon nanowire.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play an important role in the life of every cell, including cellular defense and signaling mechanisms. Continuous and quantitative ROS sensing can provide valuable information about the cell state, but it remains a challenge t ...

This study sheds light on the short-term dynamics of pro-oxidant processes related to the exposure of C. reinhardtii microalgae to nano-TiO2 using (a) conventional fluorescence probes for cellular pro-oxidant process and (b) a recently developed cytochrome ...

The aim of the project is the development of a new technology for the fabrication of bismuth (Bi) micro-nano Hall sensors integrated on plastic cantilevers. Bi, a semi-metal, is deposited by evaporation and structured by lift-off. Four electrodes made with Ti-Al are deposited and structured in the same way as Bi. SU-8 cantilevers and carrier chip are structured by photolithography process. The smallest size of the Hall sensor active area obtained with the photolithography was 2 x 2 um2 and was reduced to th

We report the fabrication and characterization of nickel Hall sensors integrated on SU-8 cantilevers. Sensors having active area down to 1x1 μm 2 show a magnetic field resolution better than 1μT/Hz 1/2 in the thermal noise frequency range. The fabricated d ...

We introduce photothermal optical lock-in Optical Coherence Microscopy (poli-OCM), a volumetric imaging technique, which combines the depth sectioning of OCM with the high sensitivity of photothermal microscopy while maintaining the fast acquisition speed ...

We report on the fabrication and electrical characterization of functionalized solid-state nanopores in low stress silicon nitride membranes. First, a pore of approximately 50 nm diameter was drilled using a focused ion beam technique, followed by the loca ...
