The nonlinear decay of oscillations of a liquid column in a U-shaped tube is investigated within the theoretical framework of the projection method formalized by Bongarzone et al. [Chaos 31, 123124 (2021)]. Starting from the full hydrodynamic system supple ...

In the last twenty years, a number of studies have been dedicated to the development of thin ceramic coating for the electrical insulation of Ag-sheathed Bi-2212 wires. Instead of preparing a coating by mixing different compounds in house, this technical n ...

Thermoset rubbers give rise to elastomers with tunable stiffness and high resilience but are not recyclable. Thermoplastic elastomers can address this problem but their broad applicability is impeded by either limited operating temperatures or inferior ela ...

Supramolecular self-assembly in water based on non-covalent bonding is attracting major attention due to the potential of hydrogels and aqueous polymers in biomedical applications. Although supramolecular polymerization in organic solvents is well establis ...

The influence of post-heat treatment on the microstructure and properties of 4D printed Fe-17Mn-5Si-10Cr-4Ni (wt. %) shape memory alloy (SMA) produced via a laser powder bed fusion process is investigated in this study. It is shown that heat-treatment temp ...

Understanding hierarchical self-assembly of biological structures requires real time measurement of the self-assembly process over a broad range of length- and timescales. The success of high-speed atomic force microscopy (HS-AFM) in imaging small scale mo ...

Gravity force, surface tension, oscillating boundary layers, viscous dissipation, static meniscus, contact angle hysteresis, and moving contact lines are typical features of sloshing dynamics. All these ingredients influence capillary-gravity waves in a co ...

Selective area epitaxy constitutes a mainstream method to obtain reproducible nanomaterials. As a counterpart, self-assembly allows their growth without costly substrate preparation, with the drawback of uncontrolled positioning. We propose a mixed approac ...

The reaction of cis-blocked, square-planar MII complexes with tetratopic N-donor ligands is known to give metallasupramolecular assemblies of the formula M2nLn. These assemblies typically adopt barrel-like structures, with the ligands paneling the sides of ...

The hydrophobic-water interface plays a key role in biological interactions. However, both the hydrophobic-water interfacial molecular structure and the origin of the negative zeta potential of hydrophobic droplets in water are heavily contested. We report ...

A facile in situ and UV printing process was demonstrated to create self-cleaning synthetic replica of natural petals and leaves. The process relied on the spontaneous migration of a fluorinated acrylate surfactant (PFUA) within a low-shrinkage acrylated h ...

Nowadays the use of natural fiber composites has gained significant interest due to their low density, high availability, and low cost. The present study explores the development of sustainable 3D printing filaments based on rice husk (RH), an agricultural ...

The majority of current semiconductor technologies are built on Si (100), such as the CMOS technology, or conventional solar cell devices. III-V semiconductors offer great perspectives given their high carrier mobility and direct band gap. However their in ...

At the interface with solids, the mobility of liquid molecules tends to be reduced compared with bulk, often resulting in increased local order due to interactions with the surface of the solid. At room temperature, liquids such as water and methanol can f ...

Fabrication of wear-resistant omniphobic surfaces is a persistent scientific challenge and essential for various applications such as in paint industries, fluid transport, antifouling, reduction of friction drag on ship hulls, and stain resistant textiles. ...

Adsorption of calf serum organic matter from a phosphate-buffered solution was studied using the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance with additional dissipation measurements. Two types of crystal surfaces were used: one rough with micrometer-range ...

We present a mechanism for a generic, powerful force of assembly and mobility for transmembrane proteins in lipid bilayers. This force is a pre-transition (or pre-melting) effect for the first-order transition between ordered and disordered phases in the m ...

When two solids start rubbing together, frictional sliding initiates in the wake of slip fronts propagating along their surfaces in contact. This macroscopic rupture dynamics can be successfully mapped on the elastodynamics of a moving shear crack. However ...

Conjugated polymers and small molecules are a promising class of semiconducting materials for application in macroelectronic and energy conversion devices. The development of high performance devices employing this class of semicrystalline materials ultima ...

Protein-polymer conjugates are a class of molecules that combine the stability of polymers with the diversity, specificity, and functionality of biomolecules. These bioconjugates can result in hybrid materials that display properties not found in their ind ...
