Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoder is among the power hungry building blocks of wireless communication systems. Voltage scaling down to Near-Threshold (NT) voltages substantially improves energy efficiency, in theory up 10x. However, tuning the voltag ...

This paper examines the binning of two types of parts with random characteristics, so that a componentwise monotonic evaluation criterion exhibits a minimum deviation to a given target value over all possible realizations. The optimal matching classes are ...

In this work, we study the computational complexity of the Minimum Distance Code Detection problem. In this problem, we are given a set of noisy codeword observations and we wish to find a code in a set of linear codes C of a given dimension k, for which t ...

Polar codes are a recent family of error-correcting codes with a number of desirable characteristics. Their disruptive nature is illustrated by their rapid adoption in the 5 th-generation mobile-communication standard, where they are used to protect contro ...

Polar codes are a new class of block codes with an explicit construction that provably achieve the capacity of various communications channels, even with the low-complexity successive-cancellation (SC) decoding algorithm. Yet, the more complex successive-c ...

State-of-the-art wearable devices such as embedded biomedical monitoring systems apply voltage scaling to lower as much as possible their energy consumption and achieve longer battery lifetimes. While embedded memories often rely on Error Correction Codes ...

This paper introduces an inexact, but ultra-low power, computing architecture devoted to the embedded analysis of bio-signals. The platform operates at extremely low voltage supply levels to minimize energy consumption. In this scenario, the reliability of ...

We propose an approach for on-line detection of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and estimation of their relative positions and velocities in the 3D environment from a single moving camera in the context of sense and avoid systems. This problem is cha ...

Wearable devices performing advanced bio-signal analysis algorithms will foster a revolution in healthcare provision of chronic cardiac diseases. In this context, energy efficiency is of paramount importance, as long-term operations must be performed withi ...

Inherently error-resilient applications in areas such as signal processing, machine learning and data analytics provide opportunities for relaxing reliability requirements, and thereby reducing the overheads incurred by conventional error correction scheme ...

The general subject considered in this thesis is a recently discovered coding technique, polar coding, which is used to construct a class of error correction codes with unique properties. In his ground-breaking work, Arikan proved that this class of codes, ...

Repeated structures are ubiquitous in urban facades. Such repetitions lead to ambiguity in establishing correspondences across sets of unordered images. A decoupled structure-from-motion reconstruction followed by symmetry detection often produces errors: ...

The contribution of this thesis is twofold. In the first part, we generalize and analyze two classes of error correcting codes: LDPC codes and product codes. We generalize graphical codes by considering checks being arbitrary codes instead of single pariti ...

Iterative detection and decoding (IDD) in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems is known to achieve near channel capacity. The high computational complexity of IDD, however, poses significant challenges for practical implementations (in ter ...

Many classes of objects can now be successfully detected with statistical machine learning techniques. Faces, cars and pedestrians, have all been detected with low error rates by learning their appearance in a highly generic manner from extensive training ...

Locally testable codes, i.e., codes where membership in the code is testable with a constant number of queries, have played a central role in complexity theory. It is well known that a code must be a "low-density parity check" (LDPC) code for it to be loca ...

The two central topics of information theory are the compression and the transmission of data. Shannon, in his seminal work, formalized both these problems and determined their fundamental limits. Since then the main goal of coding theory has been to find ...

The multiscale finite-volume (MSFV) method has been developed to solve multiphase flow problems on large and highly heterogeneous domains efficiently. It employs an auxiliary coarse grid, together with its dual, to define and solve a coarse-scale pressure ...

In deep sub-micron ICs, growing amounts of ondie memory and scaling effects make embedded memories increasingly vulnerable to reliability and yield problems. As scaling progresses, soft and hard errors in the memory system will increase and single error ev ...

Decoding that uses an extended Hamming code in one of the primary stages of static encoding uses a calculation of the r+1 Hamming redundant symbols for k input symbols from which Hamming redundant symbols are calculated, where r satisfies 2.sup.r-1-r.ltore ...
