Situational awareness strategies are essential for the reliable and secure operation of the electric power grid which represents critical infrastructure in modern society. With the rise of converter-interfaced renewable generation and the consequent shift ...

Modern power distribution systems are experiencing a large-scale integration of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). Their presence complicates the analysis and mitigation of harmonics, whose creation and propagation may be amplified ...

Chatter is a harmful self-excited vibration that commonly occurs during milling processes. Data -driven chatter detection and prediction is critical to achieve high surface quality and process efficiency. Most existing chatter detection approaches are base ...

We present a novel technique of neutron noise detection and experimental data interpretation developed during the EU H2020 project CORTEX aiming to improve the capabilities for identification and localization of neutron noise sources. The experimental data ...

Eccentricity has emerged as a potentially useful tool for helping to identify the origin of black hole mergers. However, eccentric templates can be computationally very expensive owing to the large number of harmonics, making statistical analyses to distin ...

Stochastic Maximum Likelihood (SML) is a popular direction of arrival (DOA) estimation technique in array signal processing. It is a parametric method that jointly estimates signal and instrument noise by maximum likelihood, achieving excellent statistical ...

Optical frequency combs are a series of phase-locked and equidistant laser lines in the spectral domain. In the time domain, they correspond to periodic pulse trains by the Fourier relation. The ability to shape optical combs and pulse trains is pivotal to ...

Functional time series is a temporally ordered sequence of not necessarily independent random curves. While the statistical analysis of such data has been traditionally carried out under the assumption of completely observed functional data, it may well ha ...

This thesis focuses on developing efficient algorithmic tools for processing large datasets. In many modern data analysis tasks, the sheer volume of available datasets far outstrips our abilities to process them. This scenario commonly arises in tasks incl ...

We give an information-theoretic interpretation of Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) via (relaxed) Wyner's common information. CCA permits to extract from two high-dimensional data sets low-dimensional descriptions (features) that capture the commonalit ...

With optical spectral marks equally spaced by a frequency in the microwave or the radio frequency domain, optical frequency combs have been used not only to synthesize optical frequencies from microwave references but also to generate ultralow-noise microw ...

Even at rest, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data displays exquisitely complex temporal dynamics. Here, we deployed a time-frequency analysis to track the modulus of fMRI signals over time, across space (a set of 341 brain areas) and frequenc ...

Statistical methods for inference on spatial extremes of large datasets are yet to be developed. Motivated by standard dimension reduction techniques used in spatial statistics, we propose an approach based on empirical basis functions to explore and model ...

Reconstructing continuous signals based on a small number of discrete samples is a fundamental problem across science and engineering. We are often interested in signals with "simple" Fourier structure - e.g., those involving frequencies within a bounded r ...

This paper presents a novel frequency-domain approach toward the control design for parallel grid-connected voltage source inverters (VSIs) with LCL output filters. The proposed method allows the controllers of multiple VSIs to be designed in a single step ...

Different approaches to implement unipolar Golay coding in Brillouin optical time-domain analysis based on a differential pulse pair (DPP) are investigated. The analysis points out that dedicated post-processing procedures must be followed to secure the sh ...

Sparse recovery is a powerful tool that plays a central role in many applications, including source estimation in radio astronomy, direction of arrival estimation in acoustics or radar, super-resolution microscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Conventional a ...

The exponential growth of Internet traffic and related demands for higher communication speed pushes processor-to-processor and processor-to-memory interconnects to provide further higher data-rate. Often time, processor-to-memory interconnectsâ speed is ...

This paper presents a parallel implementation technique of digital equalizer for high-speed wireline serial link receiver (RX). In wireline RX, inter-symbol interference (ISI) is mitigated by continuous-time linear equalizer, and the remaining ISI is cance ...

The transceivers of a wireless sensor network (WSN) have to fulfill the low-power and low-voltage constraints. The WiseNET project has already proven that it is possible to design a receiver working at 1V and consuming less than 2mW. However this transceiv ...
