Platinum group metal-free catalysts (e.g., Fe-N-C and Co-N-C) are used as hydrogen peroxide reduction reaction (PRR) catalysts in direct borohydride fuel cells (DBFCs). Fe-N-C is more active in the PRR and demonstrates high performance at the beginning of ...

Ni- and Co-based catalysts with added Fe demonstrate promising activity in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during alkaline water electrolysis, with the presence of Fe in a certain quantity being crucial for their enhanced performance. The mode of incor ...

Magnesium hydride (MgH2) is regarded as a promising hydrogen storage material owing to its high gravimetric and volumetric capacity and low cost. However, its large-scale application is hampered by high stability leading to elevated temperature and slow ki ...

Cu-catalyzed electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) to multi-carbon (C2+) products is often plagued by low selectivity because the adsorption energies of different reaction intermediates are in a linear scaling relationship. Development of Cu-based ...

CO2 hydrogenation over catalysts is a potentially exciting method to produce fuels while closing the CO2 cycle and mitigating global warming. The mechanism of this process has been controversial due to the difficulty in clearly identifying the species pres ...

We describe a polymeric ionic liquid (PIL) derived from trimethyl(p-vinylbenzyl)ammonium chloride ([VBTAm]Cl) that efficiently catalyzes the N-formylation of amines employing CO2 and PhSiH3 at room temperature with low catalyst loadings in near-quantitativ ...

Catalytic reduction of CO2 to valuable products is an attractive route for CO2 recycling. CeO2-supported Cu catalysts have shown high activity and selectivity for the hydrogenation of CO2 to CO. To uncover the origin of their high performance, we prepared ...

We have investigated the potential of metal-organic frameworks for immobilising single atoms of transition metals using a model system of Pd supported on NH2-MIL-101(Cr). Our transmission electron microscopy and in situ Raman spectroscopy results give evid ...

The storage of renewable energy is crucial for the substitution of fossil fuels with renewable energy. Hydrogen is the first step in the conversion of electricity from renewable sources to an energy carrier. However, hydrogen is technically and economicall ...

We demonstrate biogas upgrading towards full CO2 conversion in mild conditions in a three-step reactor system using Ru- and Ni-based catalysts. In each of the three reactor stages, the temperature is carefully controlled, thus optimizing the reaction therm ...

The single-layer graphene film, when incorporated with molecular-sized pores, is predicted to be the ultimate membrane. However, the major bottlenecks have been the crack-free transfer of large-area graphene on a porous support, and the incorporation of mo ...

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 to higher hydrocarbons is a very challenging process that has high potential for the storage of large amounts of renewable energy with a high gravimetric and volumetric energy density. The distribution of hydrocarbons f ...

A commercial Pt based washcoat, used for catalytic methane combustion, was studied supported on a commercial SIC foam as catalytic material (Pt/SiC) for catalytic hydrogen combustion (CHC). Structural and chemical characterization was performed using Elect ...

We have solved and refined the crystal structure of the orthorhombic gamma-phase of Ca(BD4)(2) by combined synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction, neutron powder diffraction, and ab initio calculations. Among five structural candidates giving the same qualit ...

The thermo-catalytic synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO2 and H2 is of great interest for the conversion of CO2 into valuable chemicals and fuels. In this work, we aim to contribute to the fundamental understanding of the effect of alloying on the reaction y ...

The electrochemical reduction of CO2 (CO2RR) into valuable products represents a step towards alleviating global warming and the energy crisis. However, the sluggish kinetics of the CO2RR and the competitive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) still limit th ...

Carbide-supported metal catalysts attract extensive research interests owing to the special properties of metal carbide and the interactions between metals and the carbide supports. While surface oxide species are inevitable in carbide materials, their rol ...

Organic-inorganic metal-halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved a certified power-conversion efficiency (PCE) of 25.5%. However, long-term stability and air stability of the PSCs are still major concerns and hamper commercialization. Herein, we ...

Fossil fuels consumption is not expected to decrease significantly in the next decade, driving the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration upward. Tremendous efforts have been made in the field of carbon capture with the development of porous material ads ...

The present relates to a combined hydrogen storage-compression unit suitable for the filling of high-pressure (350 bar and beyond) hydrogen vessels. It comprises a containment vessel filled with a hydrogen storage alloy, a heating system, a cooling system ...
