We have fabricated a soft silicone structure to support the regeneration of a sciatic nerve. The device consists of 70 parallel (120 x 110 mu m(2)) channels through which axons extend and then reconnect to the muscles on the other side of the device. Throu ...

A biomedical device having improved handling features to be easily inserted into a cavity or recess is disclosed, as well as methods for using thereof, said device comprising a flat and soft substrate, comprising electrically conductive tracks, configured ...

Wireless data communication could improve the performance and reliability of biomedical implants used in fundamental neuroscience research by removing infection-prone transcutaneous cabling. The small size of common research animals like mice and rodents, ...

Epidural electrical stimulation of the spinal cord elicits motor responses by recruiting large sensory afferents in the posterior roots. Divergence of excitatory inputs provided by these fibers generates a variety of shapes, latencies and amplitudes in the ...

We have developed a stretchable gold microelectrode array (MEA) that can withstand the torsion requirements needed for implantable neuroprosthetic interface applications. The array is composed of thin gold (sub-100 nm thick) electrodes on a soft, 120 mu m ...

This report demonstrates a wearable elastomer-based electronic skin including resistive sensors for monitoring fi nger articulation and capacitive tactile pressure sensors that register distributed pressure along the entire length of the fi nger. Pressure ...

Haptic perception of softness is a unique feature of the human skin that relies on the concurrent measurements of the lateral deformation and compression of the skin during object manipulation. This is challenging to implement in robotics because of combin ...

Stretchable electronic structure comprising one intrinsically fragile thin film integrated on or within a soft heterogeneous substrate. The invention also relates to a process for manufacturing such a structure. ...

Here we describe a sensor capable of perceiving complex one-dimensional (1-D) shape of an underlying substrate in a static and dynamic manner. The sensor consists of seven, serially connected, hyper-flexible strain gauges, manufactured using stretchable-go ...

Microfabricated capacitive sensors prepared with elastomeric foam dielectric films and stretchable metallic electrodes display robustness to extreme conditions including stretching and tissue-like folding and autoclaving. The open cellular structure of the ...

We design and implement a sensory skin that monitors in real time finger flexure (three sensors per finger) of a user's hand. Compared to current technologies, the electronic skin is made entirely of stretchable materials integrating silicone rubber, low r ...

The present invention relates to how to engineer reversible elasticity in thin films and/or layers and/or substrates, using a repeated Y-shaped motif, which is cut out throughout the film and/or layer and/or substrate. As an example, using a 75 μm thick po ...

Objective. Nerves in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) contain axons with specific motor, somatosensory and autonomic functions. Optogenetics offers an efficient approach to selectively activate axons within the nerve. However, the heterogeneous nature o ...

It is disclosed an implantable electrical/electronic biomedical device comprising: a) a reservoir (100) comprising an inlet (101) at a first end and a mechanical support (200) at a second, opposed end, and b) at least one electrode structure (300) deployab ...

A water permeation sensor suitable for monitoring and quantitatively assessing ultra-low permeability of thin film encapsulations engineered for bioelectronic microdevices, its fabrication as well as device comprising the same are disclosed herein. ...
