One of the most critical challenges facing society today is climate change and thus the need to realize massive energy savings. Since buildings account for about 40% of global final energy use, energy efficient building climate control can have an importan ...

This paper is devoted to the design of a predictive controller for constrained linear systems to track periodic references. The only assumption on the dynamics of the reference is that it is periodic and its period is known. It is also assumed that the ref ...

In this work, synthesis and closed-loop operation of robust distributed model predictive control (MPC) for linear systems using distributed optimization is discussed. Previous work has shown that a nominal MPC controller for this setup can be synthesized a ...

A nonlinear adaptive path following controller for a kite based airborne wind energy system is presented. For a given desired geometric path, we provide necessary conditions for closed-loop convergence of the kite to a tube centered around the desired path ...

This paper proposes a Model Predictive Control (MPC) scheme to solve the target estimation and tracking problem. The objective is to derive a feedback law that drives an autonomous robotic vehicle to follow a target vehicle using an on-line estimate of the ...

This paper presents PIQP, a high-performance toolkit for solving generic sparse quadratic programs (QP). Combining an infeasible Interior Point Method (IPM) with the Proximal Method of Multipliers (PMM), the algorithm can handle ill-conditioned convex QP p ...

This paper presents an active output feedback fault-tolerant model predictive control (MPC) scheme for systems with sensor faults. The proposed control scheme actively steers the system in order to prevent loss of observability caused by a sensor fault. To ...

Willems' fundamental lemma and system level synthesis both characterize a linear dynamic system by its input/output sequences. In this work, we show that the extension of the fundamental lemma in uncertain LTI systems is equivalent to the system level synt ...

Behavioral theory, which characterizes linear dynamics with measured trajectories, has found successful applications in controller design and signal processing. However, the extension of behavioral theory to general nonlinear system remains an open questio ...

The present invention concerns a method of controlling a set of electrical power resources in an electrical power grid managed by a power grid operator. The set comprises a first electrical power resource with a first electrical power response frequency an ...

Recent advances in Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms and methodologies, combined with the surge of computational power of available embedded platforms, allows the use of real-time optimization-based control of fast mechatronic systems. This paper p ...

Fast-charging stations that supply energy to electrical vehicles at high power rates may incorporate energy storage to avoid high currents to the grid and reduce peak-demand costs. We demonstrate the potential for utilizing such infrastructure for the prov ...

State-feedback model predictive control (MPC) of discrete-time linear periodic systems with time-dependent state and input dimensions is considered. The states and inputs are subject to periodically time-dependent, hard, convex, polyhedral constraints. Fir ...

In this paper, a novel hierarchical multirate control scheme for nonlinear discrete-time systems is presented, consisting of a robust nonlinear model predictive controller (NMPC) and a multirate sliding mode disturbance compensator (MSMDC). The proposed MS ...

In Model Predictive Control, the enforcement of hard state constraints can be overly conservative or even infeasible, especially in the presence of disturbances. This work presents a soft constrained MPC approach that provides closed- loop stability even for unstable systems. Two types of soft constraints are employed: state constraints along the horizon are relaxed by the introduction of two different types of slack variables and the terminal constraint is softened by moving the target from the origin to a

Smart home appliances can time-shift and curtail their power demand to assist demand side management or allow operation with limited power, as in an off-grid application. This letter proposes a scheduling process to start appliances with time-varying deter ...

The need for optimal control of processes under a restricted amount of resources renders first order optimization methods a viable option. Although computationally cheap, these methods typically suffer from slow convergence rates. In this work we discuss t ...

In this paper, the Multirate Integral Sliding Mode (MRISM) control strategy for nonlinear discrete-time systems is proposed. The MRISM controller acts at a faster sampling time than a high level controller, and reduces the effect of model uncertainties and ...

This paper proposes a stability verification method for systems controlled by an early terminated first-order method (e.g., an MPC problem approximately solved by a fixed number of iterations of the fast gradient method). The method is based on the observa ...

The demand-side control of district heating networks is notoriously challenging due to the large number of connected users and the high number of states to be considered. To overcome these challenges, this paper presents a hierarchical optimization scheme ...
