Energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) spectrum imaging yields compositional information with a spatial resolution down to the atomic level. However, experimental limitations often produce extremely sparse and noisy EDX spectra. Under such conditions, every detecte ...

Herein, the assembly of CsPbBr3 QD/AlOx inorganic nanocomposites, by using atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the growth of the amorphous alumina matrix (AlOx), is described as a novel protection scheme for such QDs. The nucleation and growth of AlOx on the ...

A strong coupling of the lattice to functional properties is observed in many transition metal oxide systems, such as the ABO(3) perovskites. In the quest for tailor-made materials, it is essential to be able to control the structural properties of the com ...

Imaging of flux vortices in high quality MgB2 single crystals has been successfully performed in a commercial field-emission gun-based transmission electron microscope. In cryo-Lorentz microscopy, the sample quality and the vortex lattice can be monitored ...

The characteristic length scale and mechanism of the metal-insulator transition in nickelate superlattices is addressed, with implications for the design of oxide electronics. ...

Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy in the transmission electron microscope is a key tool for nanomaterials analysis, providing a direct link between spatial and chemical information. However, using it for precisely determining chemical compositions ...

Excellent amorphous/crystalline silicon interface passivation is of extreme importance for high-efficiency silicon heterojunction solar cells. This can be obtained by inserting hydrogen-plasma treatments during deposition of the amorphous silicon passivati ...

We report on the growth of molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) using H2S as a gas-phase sulfur precursor that allows controlling the domain growth direction of domains in both vertical (perpendicular to the substrate plane) and horizontal (within the substrate pl ...

5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a key intermediate obtainable from various cellulosic (biomass) derivatives, but it must be converted to other chemicals such as 2,5-Furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) for direct use. FDCA is an important derivative of HMF as it ...

Heterostructures consisting of SmNiO3 and NdNiO3 alternating layers with additional LaAlO3 spacer layers were grown and fully characterized by means of x-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and scanning transmission electron microscopy. A change in t ...

In rare earth nickelates, the metal-to-insulator transition observed as a function of temperature can be described using an electronic and a structural order parameter. The electronic one is linked to the electronic disproportionation observed below the tr ...

Single-atom catalysts exhibit well-defined active sites and potentially maximum atomic efficiency. However, they are unsuitable for reactions that benefit from bimetallic promotion such as the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in an alkaline medium. Here we ...

The properties of nanometric-sized helium bubbles in silicon have been investigated using both spatially resolved electron-energy-loss spectroscopy combined with a recently developed method, and molecular-dynamics simulations. The experiments allowed for a ...

Predetermined and selective placement of nanoparticles onto large-area substrates with nanometre-scale precision is essential to harness the unique properties of nanoparticle assemblies, in particular for functional optical and electro-optical nanodevices. ...

We propose an original method for the determination of the physical properties of nanometer sized helium bubbles using spectrum imaging in an energy-filtered transmission electron microscope. Helium bubbles synthesized by high fluence implantation and ther ...
