This article reports the design, synthesis and results of first in vitro model studies of a conceptually novel class of polymer therapeutics in which the cargo is attached to a polymer backbone via a noncovalent, biologically inspired coiled coil linker, w ...

In the context of transitioning toward a more sustainable use of natural resources, the application of lignin to substitute commonly utilized petroleum-based plastics can play a key role. Although lignin is highly available at low cost and presents interes ...

Hydrophilic polymer brushes grown via surface‐initiated polymerization from silicon oxide surfaces can detach or degraft in aqueous media. Degrafting of these chain end‐tethered polymers is believed to involve hydrolysis of bonds at the polymer–substrate i ...

Thin polymer films that prevent the adhesion of bacteria are of interest as coatings for the development of infection-resistant biomaterials. This study investigates the influence of grafting density and film thickness on the adhesion of Staphylococcus epi ...

The development of various controlled radical polymerization techniques as well as site- and residue specific strategies to modify peptides/proteins with synthetic polymers have made polymer chemistry a powerful tool to address materials problems at the bi ...

Polymeric coatings that can undergo effective functionalization with ligands and (bio)molecules necessary for intended applications are widely employed to engineer functional interfaces. Herein, amine-reactive polymer brushes are fabricated using a succini ...

Polymer brushes represent an interesting platform for the development of high-capacity protein binding surfaces. Whereas the protein binding properties of polymer brushes have been investigated before, this manuscript evaluates the feasibility of poly(glyc ...

A popular strategy for overcoming the limited plasma half-life of peptide heptad repeat 2 (HR2) fusion inhibitors against HIV-1 is conjugation with biocompatible polymers such as poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). However, despite improved resistance to proteoly ...

Protein microarrays are an attractive approach for the high-throughput analysis of protein function, but their impact on proteomics has been limited by the technical difficulties associated with their generation. Here we demonstrate that fusion proteins of ...

This report describes the synthesis and properties of a series of polyvalent side chain peptide synthetic polymer conjugates designed to block the CD4 binding site on gp120 and inhibit HIV-1 entry into a host cell. The peptide sequences in the conjugates a ...

This report describes the aqueous solution self-assembly of a series of polystyrenem-b-poly(L-lysine)n block copolymers (m = 8-10; n = 10-70). The polymers are prepared by ring-opening polymerization of e-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-lysine AT-carboxyanhydride usin ...

In modern polymer science a variety of polymerization methods for the direct synthesis of polymers bearing functional groups are known. However, there is still a large number of functional groups that may either completely prevent polymerization or lead to ...

Polymer brushes that present side chain functional reactive groups are attractive platforms for the development of functional surface coatings. From the wide spectrum of possible postpolymerization modification reactions, thiol-based conjugation chemistrie ...

Amphiphilic multiarm star-block copolymers with a hydrophobic inner and a hydrophilic outer shell have been used to encapsulate hydrophobic bioactive volatiles in aqueous media under realistic application conditions. The release rates of the bioactive comp ...

This manuscript describes the synthesis of poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) brushes via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) of sodium methacrylate (NaMA) and their use as substrates for the mineralization of calcium carbonate. A C ...

Polymer therapeutics, including polymeric drugs and polymer-protein conjugates, are clinically established as first-generation nanomedicines. Knowing that the coiled-coil peptide motif is fundamentally important in the regulation of many cellular and patho ...

Transmission of viruses through contact with contaminated surfaces is an important pathway for the spread of infections. Antiviral surface coatings are useful to minimize such risks. Current state-of-the-art approaches toward antiviral surface coatings eit ...

Cells are powerful carriers that can help to improve the delivery of nanomedicines. One approach to use cells as carriers is to immobilize the nanoparticulate cargo on the cell surface. While a plethora of chemical conjugation strategies are available to b ...

The BaylisHillman reaction provides a protective-group-free strategy to heterobifunctional polyesters, which can be further modified via various post-polymerization modification reactions. This contribution explores the BaylisHillman polymerization of 1,3- ...

Strategies that allow access to side-chain functional polyesters are valuable as they would enable to engineer the properties of these hydrolytically degradable materials. This contribution explores the feasibility of a novel approach toward side-chain fun ...
