This article presents a comparison of the effects of input-output location (co-located versus discrete) on user performance in a tangible user interface (TUI) system. We conducted a mobile eye-tracking study with two different versions of a TUI system and, ...

Evidence has shown that student's attention is a crucial factor for engagement and learning gain. Although it can be accurately assessed ad-hoc by an experienced teacher, continuous contact with all students in a large class is difficult to maintain and re ...

We present a study on the impact of unexpected robot behaviors on the perception of a robot by children and their subsequent engagement in a playful interaction based on a novel ”domino” task. We propose an original analysis methodology which blends behavi ...

Robot-mediated learning activities are often designed as collaborative exercises where children work together to achieve the activity objectives. Although miscommunications and misunderstandings occur frequently, humans, unlike robots, are very good at ove ...

Le sujet de cette communication porte sur l'analyse des commentaires des étudiants dans les évaluations de l’enseignement. Après 4 années de mise en pratique de l'évaluation indicative systématique de tous les enseignements chaque semestre, nous avons jugé ...

Students of programming languages in massive on-line open courses (MOOCs) solve programming assignments in order to internalize the concepts. Programming assignments also constitute the assessment procedure for such courses. Depending on their motivation a ...

The ability to consider a wide range of solutions to a design problem is a crucial skill for designers, and is a major differentiator between experts and novices. One reason for this is that novices are unaware of the full extent of the design space in whi ...

Collaborative learning has been hypothesized to be related to the cognitive effort engaged by co-learners to build a shared understanding. The process of constructing this shared understanding requires each team member to build some kind of representation ...

We report the results from an eye-tracking study to show the differences in gaze patterns across the MOOC learners, while they watch a lecture individually as well as when they collaborate on an add-on activity. 98 university students took part in a study ...

The spatial layout of information influences collaborative interactions. We compared two awareness tools which give information on the status of participants in a collaborative work, one displaying it on a single screen and the other distributing it in the ...

We analyze classroom orchestration as a question of usability in which the classroom is the user. Our experiments revealed design features that reduce the global orchestration load. According to our studies in vocational schools, paper-based interfaces hav ...

Swarming behaviors are ubiquitous in nature, and an important topic to teach and learn. In the learning sciences domain of complex systems understanding, studies have shown that novices tend to assume that centralized control and leadership should exist wh ...

Children’s retention of a proper body posture while interacting with educational tablet applications is important for both their physical health and task performance. In this work, we propose a new approach to unobtrusively induce postural changes in child ...
