Enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL) is a large-scale industrial waste generated from the bio-ethanol production process. Its complex and heterogeneous nature as well as its low solubility in common solvents, has posed a persistent barrier to its effective ut ...

Carbon-carbon bond cleavage mechanisms play a key role in the selective deconstruction of alkanes and polyolefins. Here, we show that the product distribution, which encompasses carbon range and formation of unsaturated and isomerization products, serves a ...

The invention features metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) having a crystalline lattice comprising metallic nodes and organic ligands, wherein each organic ligand comprises a Lewis acidic or basic centre bound to N conjugated systems, wherein N is comprised be ...

Herein we show that oxaliplatin reacts rapidly with DMSO in aqueous solutions, despite being stable in pure DMSO and pure water. Furthermore, the reactivity of the clinically applied Pt(II) drugs in water/DMSO and PBS/DMSO mixtures, and the nature of the s ...

A series of ruthenium-benzene complexes with β-diketiminate ligands modified with electron-withdrawing groups were prepd. and characterized by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and single-crystal x-ray diffraction. The complexes are stable in air and un ...

The association between carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and polymers to afford functional composites has been attributed to enthalpic interactions, neglecting the entropic depletion effect, in which bound solvents are released during the association process. Here, ...

Rigorous comparisons between single site- and nanoparticle (NP)-dispersed catalysts featuring the same composition, in terms of activity, selectivity, and reaction mechanism, are limited. This limitation is partly due to the tendency of single metal atoms ...

Interest in the medicinal properties of ruthenium(II)-arene compounds has grown rapidly over the last decade. In this account we describe the origins of the field and subsequently highlight developments in the field, including the design of compounds that ...

Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation is of prime importance in the valorization of biomass-based feedstocks to produce essential chemicals and fuels. To carry out this process in a more cost-effective and sustainable manner, the use of 3D-metal-based nanostructure ...

The benzothiazinone BTZ043 is a tuberculosis drug candidate with nanomolar whole-cell activity. BTZ043 targets the DprE1 catalytic component of the essential enzyme decaprenylphosphoryl-beta-D-ribofuranose-2'-epimerase, thus blocking biosynthesis of arabin ...

Pyridylferrocene and imidazolylferrocene arene-Ru complexes [Ru(η6-arene)(L)Cl2] where L = NC5H4CH2NHOCC5H4FeC5H5, arene = p-iPrC6H4Me (1) or C6Me6 (2); L = NC3H3N(CH2)2O2CC5H4FeC5H5, arene = p-iPrC6H4Me (3) or C6Me6 (4), and diruthenium-arene complexes [R ...

Single-atom catalysts are emerging as primary catalysts for many reactions due to their 100% utilization of active metal centers leading to high catalytic efficiencies. Herein, we report the use of a single-atom Co catalyst for the oxidative cleavage of th ...

Reaction of the pentamethylcyclopentadienyl rhodium iodide dimer Cp*RhI2 with 1,1'-diphenyl-3,3'-methylenediimidazolium diiodide in non-alcohol solvents, in the presence of base, led to the formation of bis-carbene complex [Cp*Rh(bis-NHC)I] I (bis-NHC ...

The synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and CO2 is a well-established reaction, whereas the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from diols and CO2 is considerably more challenging, and few efficient catalysts are available. Here, we describe heterocycl ...

Ruthenium-based anticancer chemotherapies are making significant advances in clinical trials. Until recently, the focus has been on coordination complexes, and mechanisms such as "activation by reduction" and "transferrin-targeted delivery" have been propo ...

The polar phosphinyl carboxamide, 1'-(diphenylphosphino)-1-[N-(2-hydroxyethyl)carbamoyl]ferrocene [I; Z = null; (1)] , reacts readily with H2O2 and elemental S to give the corresponding phosphine oxide I [Z = O (2)] and phosphine sulfide I [Z = S (3)], res ...

Palladium nanoparticles immobilized on a cross-linked imidazolium-containing polymer were evaluated as a catalyst for Suzuki carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions using water as the solvent. The nanocatalysts show good catalytic activities for aryl iodide ...

A large series of ionic liqs. (ILs) based on the weakly coordinating alkoxyaluminate [Al(hfip)4]- (hfip: hexafluoroisopropoxy) with classical as well as functionalized cations were prepd., and their principal phys. properties detd. M.ps. are between 0 ([C4 ...

A series of cross-linked ionic polymers based on styrene-functionalized imidazolium salts with chloride, hexafluorophosphate, or tetrafluoroborate counter anions have been prepared and characterized using a range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques ...
