We present a novel guard-ring-sharing technique to push the limit of SPAD pixel miniaturization, and to demonstrate the operation of SPAD arrays with a 2.2 mu m-pitch, the smallest ever reported. Device simulation and preliminary tests suggest that the opt ...

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) provides a unique contrast mechanism to monitor biological parameters and molecular events in vivo. Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) cameras have been recently demonstrated in FLI microscopy (FLIM ...

Chip-scale integration is a key enabler for the deployment of photonic technologies. Coherent laser ranging or FMCW LiDAR, a perception technology that benefits from instantaneous velocity and distance detection, eye-safe operation, long-range, and immunit ...

We present a new probe for radiotracer detection in vivo. The device is based on silicon photomultipliers coupled with a scintillator and wirelessly compensated for supply voltage and temperature variations. The probe is positron sensitive. ...

Semiconductor nanocrystals feature multiply-excited states that display intriguing physics and significantly impact nanocrystal-based technologies. Fluorescence supplies a natural probe to investigate these states. Still, direct observation of multiexciton ...

The LinoSPAD2 camera combines a 512×1 linear single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) array with an FPGA-based photon-counting and time-stamping platform, to create a reconfigurable sensing system capable of detecting single photons. The read-out is fully para ...

A near-infrared sensitivity enhanced substrate non-isolated silicon single-photon avalanche diode is disclosed, comprising a p-well layer (101), a high-voltage n-well (102), the p-well layer and the high- voltage n-well layer positioned against each other ...

A quantum computer fundamentally comprises a quantum processor and a classical controller. The classical electronic controller is used to correct and manipulate the qubits, the core components of a quantum processor. To enable quantum computers scalable to ...

A light microscope comprises a light source (10) for illuminating a specimen (35), a photon-counting detector array (60) with a plurality of photon-counting detector elements (61-64) for measuring detection light (15) coming from the specimen (35), wherein ...

Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), also referred to as Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes, are primarily utilized in photon detection and counting. In this work, we present a measurement of the time-of-flight of minimum ionizing particles with outstand ...

Pixelation is common in quantum imaging systems and limit the image spatial resolution. Here, the authors introduce a pixel super-resolution approach based on measuring the full spatially-resolved joint probability distribution of spatially-entangled photo ...

Silicon Photomultipliers have the ability to replace photomultiplier tubes when used as light sensors in scintillation gamma-ray detectors. Their timing properties, compactness, and magnetic field compatibility make them interesting for use in Time-of-Flig ...

The fabrication of the first CMOS single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) back in 2003 paved the way to a range of photodetection applications based on single-photon detection, photon counting, and photon time-stamping. In turn, it has become more and more ...

This paper presents a novel concept for a compact low-cost Earth sensor based on imaging atmospheric oxygen emission at 762nm using arrays of single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). In both nighttime and daytime there is continuous emission at 762nm due to ...

Silicon-based single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) implemented in front-side illuminated arrays and imagers have often suffered from fill factor limitations. The corresponding reduced sensitivity can be sometimes traded off with longer acquisition times ...

In this paper, a complete system is presented which mimics a QWERTY keyboard on an arbitrary surface. The system consists of a pattern projector and a true-3D range camera for detecting the typing events. We exploit depth information acquired with the 3D r ...

3D Fluorescence Molecular Tomography (FMT) is an important pre-clinical tool for quantifying and characterizing molecular markers for different diseases. Herein, we demonstrate, for the first time, 3D K-Space FMT reconstructions using a large time-gated SP ...

The ALICE ITS3 (Inner Tracking System 3) upgrade project and the CERN EP R&D on monolithic pixel sensors are investigating the feasibility of the Tower Partners Semiconductor Co. 65 nm process for use in the next generation of vertex detectors. The ITS3 ai ...

Single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) are novel image sensors that record the arrival of individual photons at extremely high temporal resolution. In the past, they were only available as single pixels or small-format arrays, for various active imaging ap ...

An imager for optical tomography was designed based on a detector with 128x128 single-photon pixels that included a bank of 32 time-to-digital converters. Due to the high spatial resolution and the possibility of performing time resolved measurements, a ne ...
