We present a single-photon-sensitive spectrometer based on a linear array of 512 single-photon avalanche diode detectors with 0.04 nm spectral and 40 ps temporal resolutions. We employ a fast data-driven operation that allows direct measurement of time and ...

The proposed next generation of particle physics experiments utilizing ring imaging Cherenkov detectors (RICH) will require photodetectors with 100 ps timing, mm2 granularity, large active area and the ability to operate in increasingly harsh environments. ...

Imaging cerebral blood flow (CBF) is crucial for diagnosing cerebrovascular diseases. Conventional laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) offers high spatiotemporal resolution but limited penetration depth (

Fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) has been receiving increased attention in recent years as a powerful diagnostic technique in biological and medical research. However, existing FLI systems often suffer from a tradeoff between processing speed, accuracy, ...

Compressive Raman imaging has emerged as a promising technique to speed up chemical imaging by compressing the data during acquisition. Yet, current scanning imaging speed is fundamentally limited by the sensors pixel dwell times of at best 1 µs. Here, we ...

Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) is an emerging optical technique for non-invasive cerebral blood flow monitoring. Extraction of the DCS blood flow index typically involves calculating the temporal autocorrelation of the measured light intensity and then fitting its decay to a solution of the correlation diffusion equation. It is well-known that the experimental autocorrelation is a biased estimator of the true autocorrelation. This work explores this phenomenon as it relates to DCS, in particular imp

Continuous, noninvasive monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF) is vital for neurocritical care. Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) enables assessment of microvascular blood flow by analyzing speckle intensity fluctuations of near-infrared light. In this review, we summarize recent advances in TD-DCS using superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) at 1064 nm, as well as complementary developments in high-density CW-DCS systems using single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) cameras. Time-gate

The SwissSPAD2/3 camera family is based on quarter megapixel single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) time gated imagers. The 16.38-µm low-noise pixels feature a single-bit memory and built-in all-solid-state nanosecond time gating without the need for externa ...

Fluorescence sensing is an invaluable research tool in life science and biomedical imaging. Despite its major use and advantages, it mainly remains a tool for in vitro studies since exist fluorophores mainly absorb and emit light in the visible region, in which light penetration through the tissue is very low. Here, we use fluorescence lifetime as an intrinsic characteristic of any fluorescent dye, which to some extent, does not depend on excitation intensity and signal level. We use a large time-gated sing

For many scientific applications, electron multiplying charge coupled devices (EMCCDs) have been the sensor of choice because of their high quantum efficiency and built-in electron amplification. Lately, many researchers introduced scientific complementary ...

Quantum ghost imaging approaches have been proposed to enhance biological microscopy, for example, using 2D visible detectors to provide IR images or providing additional dimensions of spatial or spectral information. Toward the goal of making such imaging ...

This paper investigates the radiation tolerance of 28-nm bulk n and pMOSFETs up to 1 Grad of total ionizing dose (TID). The radiation effects on this commercial 28-nm bulk CMOS process demonstrate a strong geometry dependence as a result of the complex int ...

Temporal photon correlations have been a crucial resource for quantum and quantum-enabled optical science for over half a century. However, attaining non-classical information through these correlations has typically been limited to a single point (or, at ...

We report on LinoSPAD2, a single-photon camera system, comprising a 512x1 single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) front -end and one or two FPGA-based back-ends. Digital signals generated by the SPADs are processed by the FPGA in real time, whereas the FPGA o ...

The correlation properties of light provide an outstanding tool to overcome the limitations of traditional imaging techniques. A relevant case is represented by correlation plenoptic imaging (CPI), a quantum-inspired volumetric imaging protocol employing s ...

Fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM) measures fluorescence lifetimes of fluorescent probes to investigate molecular interactions. However, conventional FLIM systems often requires extensive scanning that is time-consuming. To address this challenge, we developed a novel computational imaging technique called light field tomographic FLIM (LIFT-FLIM). Our approach acquires volumetric fluorescence lifetime images in a highly data-efficient manner, significantly reducing the number of scanning steps.

We present a simulation method to estimate the dark count rate (DCR), photon detection probability (PDP), and dark current of InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) from 225K to 300K. All simulations are performed completely in TCAD and match we ...

While at cryogenic temperatures, quantum dots generate single photons at a narrowband spectrum, temporal fluctuations in its peak position pose a significant challenge towards control and metrology protocols. Up to date, evidences of spectral fluctuations are by large measured indirectly. In this work, heralded spectroscopy is used to directly measure spectral fluctuations for single CsPbBr3 nanocrystals across 8 orders of magnitude in time, down to the microsecond. We find that spectral noise spans this en

To address many of the deficiencies in optical neuroimaging technologies, such as poor tempo-spatial resolution, low penetration depth, contact-based measurement, and time-consuming image reconstruction, a novel, noncontact, portable, time-resolved laser s ...

Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLI) provides a unique contrast mechanism to monitor biological parameters and molecular events in vivo. Single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) cameras have been recently demonstrated in FLI microscopy (FLIM ...
