The present invention relates to an apparatus for imaging a page of a book or other similar document comprising: - a table defining a support plane, the book being disposed on the table such that the page to image is substantially parallel to the support p ...

Super-resolution algorithms combine multiple low resolution images into a single high resolution image. They have received a lot of attention recently in various application domains such as HDTV, satellite imaging, and video surveillance. These techniques ...

For certain fortunate choices of source/channel pairs, all sophisticated coding is in vain: for them, a code of block length one is sufficient to achieve optimal performance \cite{mgbrmvtrans}. Is the set of ``fortunate choices'' larger if we allow for codes of block length

M

? For a certain class of discrete memoryless source/channel pairs, we can prove that the answer is negative as long as

is finite.

In multichannel sampling, several sets of sub-Nyquist sampled signal values are acquired. The offsets between the sets are unknown, and have to be resolved, just like the parameters of the signal itself. This problem is nonlinear in the offsets, but linear ...

We conduct an experiment where ten attendees of an open-air music festival are acting as Bluetooth probes. We then construct a parametric statistical model to estimate the total number of visible Bluetooth devices in the festival area. By comparing our est ...

Super-resolution imaging techniques reconstruct a high resolution image from a set of low resolution images that are taken from almost the same point of view. The problem can be subdivided into two main parts: an image registration part where the different ...

We propose to use wireless sensor networks to assess the accuracy and application of Digital Surface Models (DSM) for the study of shadowing and solar radiation over the built environment. Using the ability of sensor network data to provide information abo ...

Many signal processing algorithms include numerical problems where the solution is obtained by adjusting the value of parameters such that a specific matrix exhibits rank deficiency. Since rank minimization is generally not practicable owing to its integer ...

We propose a novel camera pose estimation or perspective-n-point (PnP) algorithm, based on the idea of consistency regions and half-space intersections. Our algorithm has linear time-complexity and a squared reconstruction error that decreases at least qua ...

We propose a novel method for single-channel microphone localization inside a known room. Unlike other approaches, we take advantage of the room reverberation, which enables us to use only a single fixed loudspeaker to localize the microphone. Our method u ...

We study the spatiotemporal sampling of a diffusion field generated by K point sources, aiming to fully reconstruct the unknown initial field distribution from the sample measurements. The sampling operator in our problem can be described by a matrix deriv ...

Sensor networks are commonly deployed to measure data from the environment and accurately estimate certain parameters. However, the number of deployed sensors is often limited by several constraints, such as their cost. Therefore, their locations must be o ...

In this paper we show that it is sufficient to recover the locations of K strong reflectors within an insonified medium from three receive elements and 2K+1 samples per element. The proposed approach leverages advances in sampling signals with a finite rat ...

Given the importance of climate changes and their potentially dramatic consequences for human beings, designing precise and reliable evolution models is of prime importance. Unfortunately, current data collection techniques are rather limited as they make ...

In this paper, we consider the problem of jointly localizing a microphone array and identifying the direction of arrival of acoustic events. Under the assumption that the sources are in the far field, this problem can be formulated as a constrained low-ran ...

A novel technique for the recording of large sets of room impulse responses or head-related transfer functions is presented. The technique uses a microphone or a loudspeaker moving with constant speed. Given a setup (e.g. length of the room impulse respons ...

We study simultaneous localization and mapping with a device that uses reflections to measure its distance from walls. Such a device can be realized acoustically with a synchronized collocated source and receiver; it behaves like a bat with no capacity for ...

The present paper proposes and studies an algorithm to estimate chan- nels with a sparse common support (SCS). It is a generalization of the classical sampling of signals with Finite Rate of Innovation (FRI) and thus called SCS-FRI. It is applicable to OFD ...

New results on multidimensional filter banks and their connection to multidimensional nonseparable wavelets are presented. Among the topics discussed are sampling in multiple dimensions, multidimensional perfect reconstruction filter banks, the two-channel case in multiple dimensions, the synthesis of multidimensional filter banks, and the design of compactly supported wavelets

The ability to design efficient distributed communications systems heavily depends on a proper understanding of the distortion incurred by their constituting elements. To this end, we study the mean squared reconstruction error behavior of the distributed ...
