The present disclosure concerns a multi-spectral image printing method. The method includes the steps of: - providing a multi-spectral image; - providing a material; - determining changes in a refractive index value of the material permitting to reproduce ...

Given two video sequences, a composite video sequence can be generated which includes visual elements from each of the given sequences, suitably synchronized and represented in a chosen focal plane. For example, given two video sequences with each showing ...

A practical end-to-end all-digital multiresolution system is demonstrated that employs joint source-channel coding and modulation in order to achieve efficient broadcast of digital HDTV. The threshold effect plaguing single resolution systems is softened by a stepwise graceful degradation. This can be used to increase the coverage and robustness of the digital broadcast system. This approach is seen as an alternative to traditional single resolution digital transmission systems which are not designed for br

We present two- and three-dimensional nonseparable wavelets. They are obtained from discrete-time bases by iterating filter banks. We consider three sampling lattices: quincunx, separable by two in two dimension, and FCO. The design methods are based either on cascade structures or on the McClellan transformation in the quincunx case. We give a few design exemples. In particular, the first example of an orthogonal 2-D wavelets basis with symetries is constructed.

The classical approach to sampling time-invariant spatial fields uses static sensors distributed over space. We study a new approach involving mobile sensors that move through space measuring the field values along their paths. A single moving sensor can t ...

A classic problem is the estimation of a set of parameters from measurements collected by only a few sensors. The number of sensors is often limited by physical or economical constraints and their placement is of fundamental importance to obtain accurate e ...

The present invention discloses a method, apparatus and computer program product for locating a source of diffusion in a network, the method comprising providing a model of at least a portion of the network, the network comprising a plurality of nodes, a p ...

Current image retrieval systems offer either an exploratory search method through browsing and navigation or a direct search method based on specific queries. Combining both of these methods in a uniform framework allows users to formulate queries more naturally, since they are already acquainted with the contents of the database and with the notion of matching the machine would use to return results. We propose a multi-mode and integrated image retrieval system that offers the user quick and effective prev

In event-based sensing, many sensors independently and asynchronously emit events when there is a change in their input. Event-based sensing can present significant improvements in power efficiency when compared to traditional sampling, because (1) the out ...

Chip designers place on-chip sensors to measure local temperatures, thus preventing thermal runaway situations in multicore processing architectures. However, thermal characterization is directly dependent on the number of placed sensors, which should be m ...

We study the problem of sampling a high-dimensional bandlimited field on a union of shifted lattices under certain assumptions motivated by some practical sampling applications. Under these assumptions, we show that simple necessary and sufficient conditio ...

Method for measuring a distribution of a physical variable in a region, comprising the step of: measuring an average value of the physical variable along each of a plurality of lines in said region; estimating the distribution of the physical variable in s ...

Traditional distributed source coding rarely considers the possible link between separate encoders. However, the broadcast nature of wireless communication in sensor networks provides a free gossip mechanism which can be used to simplify encoding/decoding ...

SensorScope is a collaborative project between network, signal processing, and environmental researchers that aims at providing a cheap and out-of-the-box environmental monitoring system based on a wireless sensor network. It has been successfully used in ...

Embodiments include a method for sending a selected number of pilots (20) to a sparse channel having a channel impulse response limited in time comprising sending the selected number of the pilots (20). The pilots (20) are equally spaced in the frequency d ...

Routing in large-scale mobile ad hoc networks is challenging because all the nodes are potentially moving. Geographic routing can partially alleviate this problem, as nodes can make local routing decisions based solely on the destinations' geographic coord ...

The invertibility of linear periodically time-varying (LPTV) filters is addressed. A necessary and sufficient condition under which a LPTV filter can be inverted is shown using a LPTV postfilter. Such techniques find application, for example, in aliasing cancellation in multirate systems

In this correspondence, we consider sampling continuous-time periodic bandlimited signals which contain additive shot noise. The classical sampling scheme does not perfectly recover these particular nonbandlimited signals but only reconstructs a lowpass fi ...
