While it is well established that the surface of a nanoparticle plays a pivotal role for the protein corona, the vast number of proteins present in biological media render general conclusions about affinities between nanoparticle surfaces and proteins nont ...

Iron deficiency is an important subclinical disease affecting over one billion people worldwide. A growing body of clinical records supports the use of intravenous iron-carbohydrate complexes for patients where iron replenishment is necessary and oral iron ...

Effective multimodal cancer management requires the optimal integration of diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Radiation therapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, alone or in combination, are integral parts of various cancer treatment protocols. Hyperthe ...

The growth and properties of nanosized silicon particles produced by gas-phase reaction in a low-pressure silane plasma has been studied. In situ ion-mass spectroscopy and Mie scattering measurements were used to monitor the formation of powders. High resolution transmission electron microscopic (HREM) studies confirmed the observations made by Raman spectroscopy that the nanoparticles grow from medium range ordered clusters. Onset of crystallization was similar to 700 degrees C when structures ranging from

Introduction: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have been successfully used for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of atherosclerotic plaques. Endocytosis into monocytes/macrophages has been proposed as the mechanism for SPION uptake, but a ...

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are promising candidates in regenerative cell-therapies. However, optimizing their number and route of delivery remains a critical issue, which can be addressed by monitoring the MSCs' bio-distribution in vivo using super-p ...

The functionalization of nanoparticles is conditio sine qua non in studies of specific interaction with a biological target. Often, their biological functionality is achieved by covalent binding of bioactive molecules on a preexisting single surface coatin ...

The emerging importance of nanoparticle technology, including iron oxide nanoparticles for monitoring development, progression, and treatment of inflammatory diseases such as arthritis, drives development of imaging techniques. Studies require an imaging p ...

The possibility of controlling materials properties by tailoring their substructure at the nanometer scale is a current topic of great interest. To do so, a fundamental understanding of the growth mechanism is of key importance and an analytical challenge ...

Porous coating for the controlled release of drugs, said coating comprising a porous structure with pores adapted to act as reservoirs or as passages for a drug, in such a way that said drug can move from the external environment to/from or through said po ...

We demonstrate the ink-jet printed fabrication technique for TiO2-based memristor, followed by detailed analysis of electrical characteristics and development of a new model that considers observed phenomena of quantized conductance steps. The existence of ...

The increasing interests in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) has raised the requirement for photoresist materials with improved friction and wear properties for mechanically loaded 3D shaped microstructures. In this work, SU8 photoresist layers rein ...

This paper describes new polymer/ceramic photosensitive resins that can be used in the microstereolithography process for manufacturing complex 3D components in composite material. These new resins contain high loads (up to 80 wt.%) of alumina nanoparticles, used as fillers in a photosensitive acrylate-based resin of low viscosity. With the nanopowder-filled resin we developed, various small polymer/alumina composite components having a real geometric complexity were produced with small manufacturing times.

The invention relates to superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for use in sutureless thermal mediated tissue fusion. The nanoparticles are dispersed in a biocompatible solder material and heated by application of an alternating electromagnetic field. ...

Nanotechnology provides new opportunities in human medicine, mainly for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is often diagnosed after irreversible joint structural damage has occurred. There is an urgent nee ...

Drug eluting stents (DES) have been successfully implemented in clinical practice in the treatment against coronary artery disease. Compared to the implantation of bare metal stents, restenosis rates decreased significantly after stenting of DES into coron ...

At CERN, the circulating beam current measurement is provided by two types of transformers, the DC Current Transformer (DCCT) and the Fast Beam Current Transformer (FBCT). Each transformer is built based on toroidal cores made from a magnetic material. Dep ...

NOVELTY - The component partially or wholly comprises pigmented ceramic. The pigment comprises nanoparticles of metal of group IB in periodic table, alkaline metals or their alloy, coated with a layer of silica such as crystalline silica. The crystalline s ...

A conductive composite photoresist has been developed for the direct photopatterning of electrodes. It is based on a dispersion of silver nanoparticles in SU8, a non-conductive, negative-tone photoresist. Manufactured structures have an electrical conducti ...

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were coated with polyethylenimine. Here, we briefly describe the synthesis as well as DNA:PEI:SPION complexes and the characterization of the compounds according to their particle size, zeta-potential, mo ...
