Dissipative solitons can be found in a variety of systems resulting from the double balance between dispersion and nonlinearity, as well as gain and loss. Recently, they have been observed to spontaneously form in Kerr nonlinear microresonators driven by a ...

We demonstrate broadband resonant supercontinuum generation in a Si3N4 microresonator with normal dispersion. Rectangular bright pulses are shown to form directly using synchronous pulse-driving, generating a 2,600-line comb at 28 GHz repetition rate. (C) ...

The rapidly maturing integrated Kerr microcombs show significant potential for microwave photonics. Yet, state-of-the-art microcomb-based radiofrequency filters have required programmable pulse shapers, which inevitably increase the system cost, footprint, ...

We demonstrate the generation of a supercontinuum spanning more than 1.5 octaves over the 1.2-3.7 mu m range in a silicon nitride waveguide using sub-40-fs pulses at 2.35 mu m generated by a 75 MHz Kerr-lens mode-locked Cr:ZnS laser. (C) 2019 Optical Socie ...

We demonstrate reconfigurable microwave photonic filters based on two-soliton microcombs. The filter passbands can be reconfigured inherently via the various angles between two solitons of microresonator, without involving programmable pulse shapers. (C) 2 ...

Silicon Nitride integrated photonic circuits have drawn much attention owing to its ultra-low loss and large Kerr nonlinearity. However, the lack of Pockels effect makes it difficult to be modulated clectro-optically, which posts a major challenge for the ...

We demonstrate an electro-optically tunable hybrid integrated laser self-injection locked to a mode of a heterogeneously integrated lithium-niobate-on-Damascene-silicon-nitride microresonator. An intrinsic linewidth of 3 kHz and a frequency tuning rate of ...

Optical absorption and nonlinear index are important performance drivers in devices like microcombs and parametric oscillators. Here we use resonance-enhanced nonlinear spectroscopy to characterize absorption limits and nonlinear index for some integrated ...

We demonstrate the existence of perfect soliton crystal states and develop the deterministic procedure for their excitation in Si3N4 microresonators. We show that despite exceptional symmetrical properties, their behavior is strongly linked to the chaotic ...

Integrated microresonators are essential building blocks of linear and nonlinear photonic devices. Here we show that the performance of high-Q silicon nitride microresonators for nonlinear photonics strongly depends on the ideality of their coupler design. ...

An optically stabilized dual-comb system at telecom wavelength is used to drive a mid-infrared spectroscopy for parallel gas-phase detection in the functional group region from 2800-3600 cm -1 . A coherent broadband intensity-enhanced spectrum in the mid-i ...

Self-injection locking effect eliminates the need for bulky narrow-linewidth, tunable, continuous-wave laser for pumping of high-Q optical microresonators, utilizing bare laser diodes. Here we propose an experimental technique, which allows measuring the m ...

We measured the absorption-limited loss at telecommunication wavelengths for thin-film lithium niobate micro-ring resonators using Kerr-calibrated linear response technique. We find the average absorption loss-rate kappa(abs)/2 pi to be 3.65 +/- 0.70 MHz, ...

We demonstrate a turn-key microcomb source based on 100 GHz Si3N4 ring microresonator. The device is fully optically and electronically integrated in a compact box, which runs by pushing one button. ...

Quantum networking holds tremendous promise in transforming computation and communication. Entangled-photon sources are critical for quantum repeaters and networking, while photonic integrated circuits are vital for miniaturization and scalability. In this ...

We demonstrate the integration of a Si3N4 Damascene photonic platform with thin-film lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) via direct wafer bonding. This process enables fabrication of hybrid chi((2))-chi((3)) microresonators with Q similar to 10(6), as well ...

We report the first observation of backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in fully cladded Si3N4 waveguides. The intrinsic Brillouin gain at 25 GHz and the photoelastic constant are estimated to be 4 × 10−13 m/W and |p12| = 0.047 ± 0.004 respectively. ...

We report broadband continuous-wave frequency conversion from the O-band (1.33 μm) to the short-wave infrared (2.6 μm) in a 50 cm long low-loss Si3N4 waveguide, leveraging polarization selective far-detuned phase matching. ...

A dual-frequency-comb spectrometer and a method for spectroscopic investigation of a sample are described. The spectrometer includes first and second frequency comb devices for emitting laser pulses along first and second light paths, wherein the repetitio ...

Frequency-comb-assisted diode laser spectroscopy, employing both the accuracy of an optical frequency comb and the broad wavelength tuning range of a tunable diode laser, has been widely used in many applications. In this Letter, we present a novel method ...
