We demonstrate a novel technique of contour-mode suppression of an integrated MEMS-photonic chip up to the first HBAR mode at 17 MHz. The flattened actuation response is critical to the development of compact LiDAR engine or low-noise frequency-agile laser ...

We demonstrate an erbium-doped waveguide amplifier by erbium ion implantation in Si3N4 photonic integrated circuits, achieving 145 mW on-chip output power and more than 30 dB small-signal gain, which is on par with commercial fiber amplifiers and beyond st ...

We demonstrate a chip-scale 30 GHz single soliton microcomb based on DFB laser locked to a Si3N4 microresonator. We propose novel theoretical and experimental approaches to explain dynamics of self-injection locking, modified by Kerr nonlinearity. (c) 2020 ...

We demonstrated an integrated magnetic-free optical isolator for Si3N4 photonics using AlN piezoelectric actuators via spatio-temporal modulation. By entering into the strong mode coupling regime, maximum of 9dB isolation and

We report on an InP/Si3N4 hybrid integrated ECL that relies on 3D-printed coupling elements such as intra-cavity photonic wire bonds and facet-attached microlenses. We demonstrate 90 nm tuning range, SMSR above 60 dB, and intrinsic linewidths of 979 Hz. We ...

Quantum information, communication, and sensing rely on the generation and control of quantum correlations in complementary degrees of freedom. Free electrons coupled to photonics promise novel hybrid quantum technologies, although single-particle correlat ...

We experimentally demonstrate that dissipative Kerr solitons generated in different spectral regions can stably coexist in a single optical microresonator enabling spectral multiplexing of soliton microcombs. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

We generate correlated pairs of free electrons and cavity photons by sending an electron beam across a photonic microresonator and filtering temporal coincidences. We further characterize the pairs analogue to a heralded single photon source. ...

With optical spectral marks equally spaced by a frequency in the microwave or the radio frequency domain, optical frequency combs have been used not only to synthesize optical frequencies from microwave references but also to generate ultralow-noise microw ...

Recent advances in silicon nitride integrated photonics have achieved ultralow optical losses. Transferring this technology to standard commercial foundries, and merging it with silicon photonics via heterogeneous integration, will seed novel laser and qua ...

We demonstrate soliton based radiofrequency filters using a 104 GHz Si3N4 microresonator. The filter passband frequencies are widely reconfigured via inherent soliton states of perfect soliton crystals and two-soliton microcombs, without any external pulse ...

Recent developments of self-injection locking of a DFB laser with an ultra-high Q resonator have enabled unprecedented low-noise performance of coherent light sources. We review the demonstration of ultra-narrow linewidth laser and microcombs in integrated ...

The availability of thin-film lithiumniobate on insulator (LNOI) and advances in processing have led to the emergence of fully integrated LiNbO3 electro-optic devices. Yet to date, LiNbO3 photonic integrated circuits have mostly been fabricated using non-s ...

A silicon nitride optical ring isolator is realized by spatiotemporal modulation using bulk acoustic wave stress-optical transducers. By driving three actuators with fixed relative phases, over 17 dB isolation is achieved. (C) 2020 The Author(s) ...

We introduce a novel architecture for parallel frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) laser ranging (LiDAR). Using dual soliton microcombs, we demonstrate a parallel distance measurement with 24 channels requiring only a single FMCW pump laser and cohe ...

We generate a biphoton frequency comb from an integrated 40.4 GHz silicon nitride microring and probe the phase coherence through electro-optic mixing of the frequency bins followed by time-resolved detection of the time-correlation function. (c) 2021 The ...

We demonstrate piezoelectric actuators monolithically integrated on ultralow-loss Si3N4 waveguides. Varying the voltage applied on the actuator allows microresonator tuning, and to initiate, switch, stabilize and tightly phase lock the single soliton micro ...

We demonstrate optical frequency comb generation in hybrid high-Q optical microresonators fabricated using direct wafer bonding of photonic Damascene silicon nitride wafer with thin-film lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI). The devices enable direct phase ...

Since their discovery microresonator-based frequency combs have drawn a lot of interest due to their compact form factor and potential for integration. We report on the recent progress regarding dissipative Kerr solitons generated from photonic chip-based ...

We experimentally demonstrate broadband degenerate continuous-wave four-wave mixing in long silicon nitride (Si3N4) waveguides for operation both in the telecommunication L-band and the thulium band near 2 mu m by leveraging polarization dependence of the ...
