Ride-hailing services are emerging as a mode of transportation, necessitating modeling and control methods for efficient management. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical control framework for the optimal positioning of idle vehicles for maximizing serv ...

In this paper, we macroscopically describe the traffic dynamics in heterogeneous transportation urban networks by utilizing the Macroscopic Fundamental Diagram (MFD), a widely observed relation between network-wide space-mean flow and density of vehicles. ...

Due to the ever-increasing popularity of ride-hailing services and the indisputable shift towards alternative fuel vehicles, the intersection of the ride-hailing market and smart electric mobility provides an opportunity to trade different services to achi ...

Several works published over the last two decades have shown for a stylized set-up with homogeneous users that metering-based priority (MBP) schemes may generate Pareto improving departure time adjustments similar to those induced by congestion pricing, bu ...

In the era of big data, new transportation-related concepts and methodologies need to be proposed for understanding how congestion propagates. pNEUMA, a unique dataset that was acquired during a first-of-its-kind experiment with a swarm of drones over a de ...

Traditional priority schemes reduce delays for some by increasing those of others. Yet, this might not be a necessity. Several works published over the last two decades have shown for a stylized set-up with homogeneous users that dynamic priority scheme ma ...

pNEUMA is an open large-scale dataset of naturalistic trajectories of half a million vehicles that have been collected by a one-of-a-kind experiment by a swarm of drones in the congested downtown area of Athens, Greece. A unique observatory of traffic cong ...

For uninterrupted traffic flow, it is well-known that the fundamental diagram (FD) describes the relationship between traffic flow and density under steady state. For interrupted traffic flow on a signalized road, it has been recognized that the arterial f ...

Travel time is an important performance measure for transportation systems, and dissemination of travel time information can help travelers make reliable travel decisions such as route choice or departure time. Since the traffic data collected in real time ...

Unmanned aerial systems, known as "drones", are relatively new in collecting traffic data. Data from drone videography can have potential applications for traffic research. Drones can record the vehicles from their aerial point-of-view and provide their na ...

Recent advances in the network-level traffic flow modelling provide an efficient tool for analyzing traffic performance of large-scale networks. A relationship between density and flow at the network level is developed and widely studied, namely the macros ...

We propose an incentive-based traffic demand management policy to alleviate traffic congestion on a road stretch that creates a bottleneck for the commuters. The incentive targets electric vehicles owners by proposing a discount on the energy price they us ...

In this paper, we study the operations of a one-way station-based carsharing system implementing a complete journey reservation policy. We consider the percentage of served demand as a primary performance measure and analyze the effect of several dynamic s ...

Recent experimental analysis has shown that some types of urban networks exhibit a low scatter reproducible relationship between average network flow and density, known as the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD). It has also been shown that heterogeneity ...

Day-to-day travel time variability plays a significant role in travel time reliability. Nowadays, travelers not only seek to minimize their travel time on average, but also value its variation. The variation in the mean and the variance of travel time (acr ...

The combination of multimodal interactions, dynamic congestion and lane changing phenomena in an urban environment can have a strong impact on traffic flow dynamics, active road capacity and road safety. However, while there is a vast understanding of micr ...

Traffic congestion in large urban networks may take different shapes and propagates non-uniformly variations from day to day. Given the fact that congestion on a road segment is spatially correlated to adjacent roads and propagates spatiotemporally with fi ...

Equity issues among travellers are critical in congestion pricing. Failure to treat equity can lead to low acceptability towards pricing. In this paper, we develop congestion pricing schemes to improve both equity and traffic performance, for multimodal ne ...

Human mobility in large cities is a complex dynamical system with high density of population, many transport modes to compete for limited available space and many operators that try to efficiently manage different parts of this system. New emerging modes o ...

Decentralized signal control of congested traffic networks based on the Max-Pressure (MP) controller is theoretically proven to maximize throughput, stabilize the system and balance queues for single intersections under specific conditions. However, its pe ...
