We demonstrate the integration of a Si3N4 Damascene photonic platform with thin-film lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) via direct wafer bonding. This process enables fabrication of hybrid chi((2))-chi((3)) microresonators with Q similar to 10(6), as well ...

The rapid development of micro- and nanomechanical oscillators in the past decade has led to the emergence of novel devices and sensors that are opening new frontiers in both applied and fundamental science. The potential of these devices is however affect ...

Directly accessing the middle infrared, the molecular functional group spectral region, via supercontinuum generation processes based on turn-key fiber lasers offers the undeniable advantage of simplicity and robustness. Recently, the assessment of the coh ...

We demonstrate the first photonic integrated circuit platform using Lithium Tantalate (LiTaO3), achieving waveguides with low losses (5.6 dB m−1), Mach-Zehnder modulators with a 40 GHz electro-optical bandwidth and a 1.96 V · cm voltage-length product, alo ...

Efficient third-order nonlinear optical processes have been successfully integrated on silicon nitride (Si3N4) waveguides. In particular, owing to Si3N4 wide transparency window spanning from the visible to the middle-infrared (mid-IR), efficient mid-IR di ...

We demonstrate a novel class of lasers, based on the hybrid integration of an RSOA with an extended-distributed Bragg reflector (E-DBR) laser cavity implemented on a Si3N4 chip with microheaters. This enables us to reach sub-kHz laser linewidth with more t ...

We report the first observation of backward stimulated Brillouin scattering in fully cladded Si3N4 waveguides. The intrinsic Brillouin gain at 25 GHz and the photoelastic constant are estimated to be 4 × 10−13 m/W and |p12| = 0.047 ± 0.004 respectively. ...

Optical parametric oscillators enable the conversion of pump light to new frequency bands using nonlinear optical processes. Recent advances in integrated nonlinear photonics have led to the creation of compact, chip-scale sources via Kerr-nonlinearity-ind ...

We developed a chip-based silicon nitride platform with thick waveguides (> 2 mm) that overcomes the usual fabrication limitation. We demonstrate both microresonator frequency comb generation at 2:5 mm and supercontinuum generation extending beyond 4:0 mm ...

We experimentally demonstrate three-fold wavelength multicasting of a 64-quadrature-amplitude-modulation (QAM), 120-Gbit/s data channel using a microresonator Kerr frequency comb and nonlinear wave mixing. The multicasting is achieved with a data signal an ...

We report broadband continuous-wave frequency conversion from the O-band (1.33 μm) to the short-wave infrared (2.6 μm) in a 50 cm long low-loss Si3N4 waveguide, leveraging polarization selective far-detuned phase matching. ...

We report broadband bright soliton microcomb generation in the emerging platform gallium phosphide on insulator. We demonstrate a broadband dispersion-engineered photonic-crystal Fabry-Perot resonator with record-high quality factors. ...

We perform optical frequency division of an ultra-stable laser by using a crystalline-based Kerr frequency comb as a transfer oscillator. We demonstrate absolute phase noise levels of -110 dBc/Hz at 200-Hz offset from a 14 GHz carrier. (C) 2019 The Author( ...

We theoretically investigate chaotic and stable structures in coupled-resonator chains and synthetic frequency dimension influenced by Kerr nonlinearity, thereby bringing insights in the emerging field of soliton generation in chains and lattices of high-Q ...

A dual-frequency-comb spectrometer and a method for spectroscopic investigation of a sample are described. The spectrometer includes first and second frequency comb devices for emitting laser pulses along first and second light paths, wherein the repetitio ...

We demonstrate dispersion engineering of integrated silicon nitride based ring resonators through conformal coating with hafnium dioxide deposited on top of the structures via atomic layer deposition. Both, magnitude and bandwidth of anomalous dispersion c ...

We demonstrate frequency-agile self-injection-locked lasers that exploit photonic wire bonds for connecting piezo-tunable Si3N4 microresonators to DFB lasers. Our devices offer intrinsic linewidths below 100Hz along with highly linear frequency sweeping ov ...

Continuous-wave four-wave mixing conversion efficiency-bandwidth trade-off in silicon nitride waveguides is investigated to reach efficient and broadband wavelength conversion. Additionally, parametric gain and efficient cascaded four-wave mixing is observ ...

We demonstrate optical arbitrary waveform generation at a record-high bandwidth of 325 GHz by phase-stabilized superimposing of four tributary signals. In a proof-of-concept experiment, we use the scheme to generate 320 GBd 32QAM data signals, which are tr ...
