A novel CMOS image sensor is proposed to overcome the analog design limitations in Active Pixel Sensors - APS and large area overcome in Digital Pixel Sensors - DPS for use in bio-medical applications. The design includes a pixel level event generation mec ...

Conventional pharmaceutical processes involving cell culture growth are generally taken under control with expensive and long laboratory tests performed by direct sampling to evaluate quality. This traditional and well-established approach is just partiall ...

In this study, we propose the development and simulation of an electrochemical aptamer biosensor designed for point-of-care detection of tuberculosis (TB) in human urine. The biosensor operates through amperometric biosensing combined with aptamer-antibody ...

An approach based on multi-layer spiral inductors to remotely power implantable sensors is investigated. As compared to single-layer inductors having the same area, multi-layer printed inductors enable a higher efficiency (up to 35% higher) and voltage gai ...

Electrochemical sensors integrated with CMOS circuits play a pivotal role in quantifying various chemicals across a huge spectrum of applications, prominently in distributed diagnostics and remote monitoring. When designing integrated devices, meticulous c ...

Silicon nanowires are reported for their application in bio sensing area and their potential in the detection of various biomolecules. In the present work, freestanding two-terminal Schottky-barrier silicon nanowire arrays exhibiting memristive behavior ar ...

The live demonstration presents the innovative concept of a portable pen-device able to sense anaesthetic compounds over time for improved anaesthesiology practice. A custom Printed Circuit Board (PCB) manage in the event-based quasi-digital domain the sam ...

Biomolecular computing is the field of engineering where computation, storage, communication, and coding are obtained by exploiting interactions between biomolecules, especially DNA, RNA, and enzymes. They are a promising solution in a long-term vision, br ...

A needle-shaped electrochemical sensor based on platinum electrodes is proposed in this paper. These platinum electrodes provide improved mechanical properties with respect to previous prototypes proposed in literature. This makes them suitable for inserti ...

We describe an integrated biosensor capable of sensing multiple molecular targets using both cyclic voltammetry (CV) and chronoamperometry (CA). In particular, we present our custom IC to realize voltage control and current readout of the bio ...

We report a novel electrochemical sensor based on nanographite grown on platinum microelectrodes for the determination of bilirubin in the presence of normal concentrations of albumin. The albumin is a protein with an intrinsic ability to bind the bilirubi ...

This paper presents a novel methodology for mod-eling memristive biosensing within COMSOL Multiphysics, fo-cusing on critical performance metrics such as antigen-antibody binding concentration and output resistive states. By studying the impact of increasi ...

A full remotely powered system for metabolism monitoring of free-moving mice is presented here. The fully implantable sensing platform hosts two ASICs, one off-the-shelf micro-controller, four biosensors, two other sensors, a coil to receive power, and an ...

Over the years, several clock and data recovery architectures have been proposed for wireless Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK) transmitted signals. State-of-the-art architectures mainly rely on synchronous phase-locked loop circuits or selfsampling systems, bo ...

This textbook demonstrates new paradigms for the interface between CMOS circuits and the biological world. A deep theoretical description of such an interface is defined and discussed, while various real applications are demonstrated by also discussing sev ...

Nano-biosensing provides new tools to investigate cellular differentiation and proliferation. Upon the various metabolic compounds secreted by cells during life cycles, glucose, lactate and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are of first interest. Nanostructured ele ...

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is an important oncomarker for the detection of breast cancer. For ultra-sensitive sensing of CEA with great specificity and accuracy, an innovative and reliable electrochemical immunosensor was developed using various nano-h ...

In biological applications and systems where even the smallest details have a meaning, CCD cameras are mostly preferred and they hold most of the market share despite their high costs. In this paper, we propose a custom-designed CMOS camera to compete with ...

Cyclodextrins (CDs) are oligosaccharides composed of six (α), seven (β) or eight (γ) glucose units. Their inner hydrophobic cavity and hydrophilic external surface enable the formation of the “host-guest inclusion complex” with different organic or inorgan ...

European Union COST Actions provide the opportunity for researchers who are geographically dispersed to work together towards an ambitious, multidisciplinary goal, whilst learning from each other and avoiding effort duplication. This paper gives a brief ov ...
