The solid-state self-assembly of molecular semiconductors is a key aspect for controlling the optoelectronic properties of organic electronic materials. Herein, we investigate the use of a flexible linker strategy to control the self-assembly of a solution ...

The facile synthesis, solution-processability, and outstanding optoelectronic properties of emerging colloidal lead halide perovskite quantum dots (LHP QDs) makes them ideal candidates for scalable and inexpensive optoelectronic applications, including pho ...

Hematite photoanodes for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting are often fabricated as extremely-thin films to minimize charge recombination because of the short diffusion lengths of photoexcited carriers. However, poor crystallinity caused by structu ...

Photoelectrochemical water-splitting devices, which use solar energy to convert water into hydrogen and oxygen, have been investigated for decades. Multijunction designs are most efficient, as they can absorb enough solar energy and provide sufficient free ...

Hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) is widely recognized as a promising candidate for the production of solar fuels via water splitting, but its intrinsic optoelectronic properties have limited its performance to date. In particular, the large electrochemical overpoten ...

Mo6+ doping increases the photoelectrochemical performance of BiVO4 photoanodes in water oxidation. Herein, the underlying mechanisms is elucidated through a systematic structural, morphological, and photoelectrochemical investigation on photoelectrodes of ...

Photoanodes consisting of nanostructured hematite prepared by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) have previously set a benchmark for solar water splitting. Here, we fully investigate this promising system by varying critical synthetic p ...

The greater crystallinity of solution-processed small-molecule organic semiconductors, compared to their polymer counterparts, renders the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) more susceptible to phase separation under thermal stress, decreasing device performance. H ...

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells have emerged as promising devices that afford the direct conversion of solar energy into electric power and/or chemical fuels. Apart from the obvious importance of the bulk properties of semiconductor materials employed as ...

Uncovering the precise effect of the conjugated polymer chain length on the semiconducting properties in thin-film devices is confounded by the step-growth polymerization techniques typically used. Here, we use preparatory size exclusion chromatography to ...

An extensive understanding of WO3 and WSe2 bulk crystalline structures and explicit solvent effects on (001)-WO3 and (100)-WSe2 facets are essential for design of efficient (photo) electrocatalysts. The atomistic level understanding of both WO(3 )and WSe2 ...

Designing efficient yet robust photoanodes for water oxidation stands out as a major bottleneck in the realization of a feasible photoelectrochemical tandem cell for solar water splitting. Spinel copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) has been recently reported as a pot ...

The use of molecular modulators to reduce the defect density at the surface and grain boundaries of perovskite materials has been demonstrated to be an effective approach to enhance the photovoltaic performance and device stability of perovskite solar cell ...

Water oxidation or oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in electrochemical cells is considered to be a major bottleneck in the way of hydrogen production by electro-synthesis, mainly due to a sluggish kinetics that characterizes the OER steps. Layered transitio ...

We introduce a simple solution-based strategy to decouple morphological and functional effects of annealing nanostructured, porous electrodes by encapsulation with a SiO2 confinement scaffold before high temperature treatment We demonstrate the effectivene ...

The photoelectrochemical reduction of water or CO2 is a promising route to sustainable solar fuels but hinges on the identification of a stable photoanode for water oxidation. Semiconductor oxides like Fe2O3 and BiVO4 have been gaining significant attentio ...

An overview of a collaborative experimental and theoretical effort toward efficient hydrogen production via photoelectrochemical splitting of water into di-hydrogen and di-oxygen is presented here. We present state-of-the-art experimental studies using hem ...

Given the urgent need to develop a sustainable, carbon neutral energy storage system on a global scale, intense efforts are currently underway to advance the field of artificial photosynthesis: i.e. solar fuel engineering. In this review we give an overvie ...

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are increasingly used in applications that rely on the optical and electronic properties of these materials. These applications require a fundamental understanding on how the structure of these materials, and in particular t ...

Recent advances in low‐cost manufacturing as well as in bulk/interface engineering have positioned zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4, ZFO) in the spotlight as a candidate material for solar water oxidation. However, the severe recombination at the reactive interface r ...
