The synthesis of heterotrimetallic molecular cages is reported. The assemblies contain three types of coordination compounds: FeII clathrochelate complexes, AuI3(pyrazolate)3 complexes, and [PdII(pyridine)4]2+ complexes. The cages were obtained in a stepwi ...

Diazoolefins tend to be highly reactive compounds that rapidly lose dinitrogen. So far, most experimental evidence for diazoolefins is indirect, via trapping experiments. Here we show that diazoolefins are observed to form in reactions of N-heterocyclic ol ...

The bimetallic ruthenium complex [(1,3,5-C6H3i-Pr3)Ru(m-Cl)3RuCl(C2H4)(PCy3)] has been synthesized by reaction of [(1,3,5-C6H3i-Pr3)RuCl2)]2 with one equivalent of PCy3 in the presence of ethylene. It can be used as a catalyst precursor for the controlled ...

Nitrous oxide is a potential diazo transfer reagent, but its applications in organic chemistry are scarce. Here, we show that triazolopyridines and triazoloquinolines are formed in the reactions of metallated 2-alkylpyridines or 2-alkylquinolines with N2O. ...

An amphiphilic fluorescent dye with a disulfonated BODIPY head group and a heptadecyl side chain is described. In buffered aqueous solution, the amphiphile can form aggregates with a critical micelle concentration of similar to 20 mu M. The aggregation of ...

The utilization of large ligands in coordination-based self-assembly represents an attractive strategy for the construction of supramolecular assemblies more than two nanometers in size. However, the implementation of this strategy is hampered by the fact ...

The dimeric ruthenium complex Cp^RuCl2 is easily accessible in a one-pot reaction from RuCl3(solv)(n) and tert-butylacetylene. It features sterically very demanding "Cp-roof" ligands (Cp^ = eta(5)-1-methoxy-2,4-tert-butyl-3-neopentylcyclopentadienyl), ...

Reactions between N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and the trityl cation, [Ph3C]+, give covalent adducts of type [NHC–CPh3]+ and/or [NHC–C6H5–CPh2]+. EPR spectroscopy, UV-Vis analyses, and trapping experiments imply that adduct formation involves carbene rad ...

Ditopic N-donor ligands with terminal 4-pyridyl groups are omnipresent in coordination-based self-assembly. The utilization of ligands with 3-pyridyl donor groups is significantly less common, because the intrinsic conformational flexibility of these ligan ...

The reaction of nitrous oxide (N2O) with N-heterocyclic olefins (NHOs) results in cleavage of the N–O bond and formation of azo-bridged NHO dimers. The latter represent very electron-rich compounds with a low ionization energy. Cyclic voltammetry studies s ...

The reaction of (Et3P)PdCl2 with 2,3-dihydroxypyridine, 5-chloro-2,3,-dihydroxypyridine, or 2-hydroxynicotinic acid in the presence of base gives neutral, metallomacrocyclic compounds in which the heterocycles act as dianionic, bridging ligands. The m ...

One tetrahedral and two trigonal prismatic cages with π-basic Au3(pyrazolate)3 faces were obtained by connection of pre-formed gold complexes via dynamic covalent imine chemistry. The parallel arrangement of the Au3(pyrazolate)3 complexes in the prismatic ...

Polymers containing PdnL2n complexes as network junctions were obtained by reaction of poly(ethylene glycol)-linked N-donor ligands with Pd2+. The addition of a metastable state photoacid renders the networks light sensitive, and gel–sol transitions can be ...

Bent (hetero)allenes such as carbodicarbenes and carbodiphosphoranes can act as neutral C-donor ligands, and diverse applications in coordination chemistry have been reported. N-Heterocyclic diazoolefins are heterocumulenes, which can function in a similar ...

A synthetic procedure for the synthesis of two molecular borophosphate cages is described. Heating of ethyl phosphate with phenylboronic or 4-formylboronic acid in toluene gives [6+6] condensation products of the general formula EtOPO3BAr. Crystallogr ...

Boronic acid-capped clathrochelates were used to build rigid, linear bipyridyl ligands with adjustable lengths between 1.5 and 5.4 nm. The syntheses can be accomplished in one or two steps from simple starting materials. The potential of these ligands as b ...

The multicomponent reaction of diboronic acids with a catechol and a tripyridyl linker results in the formation trigonal prismatic cages. The cages feature six dative boron–nitrogen bonds as structure-directing elements. The size of the cages can be varied ...

Alkylidene ketenes typically display high intrinsic reactivity, impeding isolation on a preparative scale. Herein, we report the synthesis of alkylidene ketenes by reaction of imidazole-based diazoolefins with carbon monoxide. The good thermal stability of ...

Catalysis with laughing gas: N2O in combination with transition-metal catalysts allow the oxidative homo- and cross-coupling of Grignard reagents. The reactions can be performed under mild conditions despite the inert character of N2O. ...

Dinuclear ruthenium complexes were shown to exhibit strong antiproliferative properties in human tumor cell lines. In order to extend the structure−activity relationships (SARs), a series of new RuII(arene)X complexes (X = Cl, Br, I) linked by pyridinone-b ...
