A series of novel lanthanide(III) complexes (Ln=Gd, Er, Yb) based on dendritic diphenylquinoxaline (DPQ) ligands was designed and synthesized with the aim of enhancing the luminescence intensity of Er3+ and Yb3+ ions for photonic applications. The diphenyl ...

Because of their remarkable and unmatched optical and magnetic properties, the lanthanides are under the limelight when it comes to high technology. These elements are used in strategic applications such as optical glasses and lasers, telecommunications, l ...

Machine learning has provided a huge wave of innovation in multiple fields, including computer vision, medical diagnosis, life sciences, molecular design, and instrumental development. This perspective focuses on the implementation of machine learning in d ...

Brightness has different meaning in different contexts and some of these are reviewed. The scientific definition of brightness does not represent our perception. The current definition is that from the IUPAC Gold Book and is mainly restricted to solutions. ...

The invention provides a novel podate ligand H4L[1,2,4,5-tetrakis(pyrazol-1-ylmethyl-3-carboxylic acid)benzene] and to complexes comprising the ligand and a metal ion. Pharmaceutical compositions and methods of making and using the metal-podate complex for enhancement of diagnostic imaging are also described.

Tris(β-diketonato)europium(III) with a series of variably fluorinated ligands derived from 3,5-heptanedione were synthesised with the aim of determining their hydration state under extraction conditions. The number of coordinated water molecules was determ ...

The segmental bidentate–tridentate–bidentate ligand L2 reacts with MII (M = Cr, Zn) and LnIII (Ln = La, Eu, Gd, Tb, Lu) to give the heterotrimetallic triple-stranded helicates [MLnM(L2)3]7+. For M = ZnII, the isolated complexes ZnLnZn(L2)37 (Ln = ...

The coordination ability of the hexaphosphinoylated p-tert-butylcalix[6]arene

toward actinides is established, as well as its good separation ability of the actinide ions

UO_2 ^{2+}

and Th(IV) over trivalent rare earths such as La(III), Eu(III) ...

This work illustrates a simple approach for optimizing long-lived near-infrared lanthanide-centered luminescence using trivalent chromium chromophores as sensitizers. Reactions of the segmental ligand L2 with stoichiometric amounts of M(CF3SO3)(2) (M = Cr, Zn) and Ln(CF3SO3)(3) (Ln = Nd, Er, Yb) under aerobic conditions quantitatively yield the D-3-symmetrical trinuclear MLnM(L2)(3)(n) complexes (M = Zn, n = 7; M = Cr, n = 9), in which the central lanthanide activator is sandwiched between the two

OLEDs based on lanthanide complexes have decisive optical advantages but are hampered by low brightness. Despite the efforts to optimize several parameters such as quantum yield and charge carrier mobility, there seems to be another key parameter that hind ...

Spectrally distinct fluorophores are desired for multiplexed bioimaging. In particular, monitoring biological processes in living mammals needs fluorophores that operate in the 'tissue-transparent' near-infrared (NIR) window, that is, between 700 and 1,700 ...

Water-soluble lanthanide-containing coordination nanoparticles with a size around 4-5 nm were prepared by the growth confinement of the Tb-2(bdc)(3)(H2O)(4) three-dimensional network using an organic polymer; the terbium- and the europium-based objects pre ...

Previously limited to highly symmetrical homoleptic triple-helical complexes [Er(Lk)3]3+, where Lk are polyaromatic tridentate ligands, single-center molecular-based upconversion using linear optics and exploiting the excited-state absorption mechanism (ES ...

Lanthanide ions possess fascinating optical properties and their discovery, first industrial uses and present high technological applications are largely governed by their interaction with light. Lighting devices (economical luminescent lamps, light emitti ...

Four tetracatenar (L1–L4) and one hexacatenar (L5) ligands, derived from the diaza-18-crown-6 framework, are synthesized and characterized. In these ligands, the amine functions are fitted with benzoyloxybenzyl linker groups, attached either with a carbony ...

The connection of twelve peripheral and divergent dodecyloxy chains to a central tridentate aromatic binding unit provides the dodecacatenar ligand L11, for which room- temperature mesomorphism is detected. An enthalpically unbalanced large melting entropy ...

Scheelite related compounds with general formula Mn(XO4)m are of interest owing to their optical properties, stability and relatively simple preparation. Eu3+-containing scheelites are considered as red emitting phosphors and the main factors affecting the ...

Lanthanide bioprobes and bioconjugates are ideal luminescent stains in view of their low propensity to photobleaching, sharp emission lines and long excited state lifetimes permitting time-resolved detection for enhanced sensitivity. In this paper, we expa ...

PDMS-based microfluidic devices combined with lanthanide-based immunocomplexes have been successfully tested for the multiplex detection of biomarkers on cancerous tissues, revealing an enhanced sensitivity compared to classical organic dyes. ...

Water-soluble triple-stranded [Ln2(L)3] helicates have been successfully tested as imaging probes in human cervical adenocarcinoma cells (HeLa), the complex being not toxic and clearly staining their cytoplasm in a concentrationdependent manner. ...
