The ionic liquid 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazole chloride ([C12- mim]Cl) is doped with 1 mol-% of the lanthanide ternary complexes [Ln(tta)3(phen)] (tta = thenoyltrifluoroacetonate, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, Ln = Nd, Eu, Er, Yb), resulting in luminescent mes ...

The recent upsurge of interest in contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging, of luminescent chemosensors for medical diagnostic, and lately, for optical imaging of cells has generated an impressive momentum for the coordination and supramolecular chem ...

The first part of this short review focuses on the insertion of luminescent lanthanide ions into molecular compounds. The main requirements for the development of highly luminescent chelates with potential applications in biomedical analysis and time-resol ...

Two unsymmetrical ditopic hexadentate ligands designed for the simultaneous recognition of two different trivalent lanthanide ions have been synthesized, LAB2 and LAB3, where A represents a tridentate benzimidazole-pyridinebenzimidazole coordination unit, ...

A new 1,3-diketonato ligand containing both an electron-donor [4-(dimethylamino)benzene] and an electron-acceptor (4- nitrobenzene) group and its lanthanide complexes have been prepared. They display an intense intra-ligand charge-transfer absorption trans ...

The phosphinoyl-substituted macrocyclic receptor B8bL8, derived from p-tert-butylcalix[8]arene, was synthesized and its structure was studied in solution. According to temperaturedependent 1H and 31P NMR spectroscopic data, the calix[8]arene adopts a so-ca ...

Near‐infrared (NIR) light sources hold great potential for applications in night vision illumination, bio‐imaging, and non‐destructive testing. However, radiationless de‐activation and low absorption restrict the development of high‐efficiency blue light e ...

A hierarchically ordered 4,4'-biphenylene-bridged mesoporous organosilica framework (Bp-PMO) has been synthesized with the aim of using it as a new hybrid host for Ln(III) ions. A series of novel organic-inorganic luminescent hybrid materials have been obt ...

The homoditopic ligand

H_2L^{C3}

has been designed to form neutral triple-stranded bimetallic helicates of overall composition [

Ln_2(L^{C3})_3

]. The grafting of the polyoxyethylene fragments ensures water solubility and also favors cell penetration whi ...

A series of tridentate benz- ACHTUNGTRENUNGimidazole-substituted pyridine-2-carboxylic acids have been prepared with a halogen, methyl or alkoxy group in the 6-position of the benzimidazole ring, which additionally contains a solubilising N-alkyl chain. Th ...

Heteronuclear lanthanide terephthalate coordination polymers with the general chemical formula [Ln2-2xLn2x(bdc)3(H2O)4], for which bdc2- symbolizes benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (or terephthalate) and Ln and Ln represent trivalent rare earth ions, were synthesized and structurally characterized. Analysis of the Y/Lu compounds by 89Y and 13C solid-state NMR spectroscopy was carried out, and the results support the hypothesis of randomly distributed lanthanide ions. The spectroscopic and colorimetric properties o

Separation and subsequent culturing of MCF-7 breast cancer cells on self-assembled protein-coated magnetic beads in a microfluidic chip is demonstrated. The beads were patterned in situ inside a sealed microfluidic channel using magnetic-field-assisted electrostatic self-assembly. Hereafter, they were grafted by exposure to a solution of 5D10 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) and fibronectin (FN), with the first being used for immunospecific cell capture and the latter being used for cell adhesion and growth. A s

A series of hexadentate ditopic receptors incorporating benzimidazole moieties have been designed, which are fitted with phosphonic acid or phosphoethylester coordinating units. In addition, poly(oxyethylene) pendants have been introduced on the benzimidaz ...

A new class of benzimidazole-substituted 8-hydroxyquinoline ligands has been prepared that contain a monoanionic tridentate N,N,O-coordinating unit. These ligands form charge-neutral lanthanide complexes of the type [Ln(LR) 3] · nH2O or [Ln2(L2)3] · nH2O ( ...

Lanthanide luminescent materials have gradually become indispensable in a wealth of applications, including phosphors for lighting and displays, security inks and tags, lasers, optical fibers, night vision, photocatalysis, bioprobes, nanoscopy, and light-a ...

Ru-based metallostars Na4{Ru[Ln2bpy-DTTA2(H2O)4]3} (Ln = Y, Gd, and Eu) have been self-assembled in aqueous solution and their relaxivity and optical properties unravelled. The ynthesis and the purification of the new, highly stable heptametallic entities ...

Basic thermodynamic considerations are used to rationalize the formation of thermotropic mesophases incorporating aromatic ligands for trivalent lanthanide metal ions (Ln). Standard flat and bent molecular interfaces, separating the central binding unit fr ...

α‐Substituted DOTAs are promising chelators for MRI contrast agents owing to the improved coordination stability and relaxivity of the corresponding Gd(III) complexes. However, their broader application is limited by significant synthetic challenges arising from their multi‐component nature. In this work, we report—for the first time—the use of multi‐component reactions (MCRs) to assemble all necessary building blocks of α‐aryl‐substituted DOTAs in a single step. This strategy yields derivatives with faster

The cellular uptake mechanism and intracellular distribution of emissive lanthanide helicates have been elucidated by time-resolved luminescence microscopy (TRLM). The helicates are non-cytotoxic and taken up by normal (HaCat) and cancer (HeLa, MCF-7) cell ...

Three novel 2-carboxamide-8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives wrap helically around trivalent lanthanide ions to form monometallic 3 : 1 complexes possessing strong NIR emission. ...
