This article discusses system-level techniques to optimize the power-performance trade-off in subthreshold circuits and presents a uniform platform for implementing ultra-low power power-scalable analog and digital integrated circuits. The proposed techniq ...

We present two fully differential limiting amplifiers with and without inductive peaking, designed and integrated in 0.18mm digital CMOS technology. The key design trade-offs, the importance of inductive coupling between neighboring channels, as well as th ...

Label-free DNA detection plays a crucial role in developing point-of-care biochips. Capacitance detection is apromising technology for label-free detection. However, data published in literature often show evident time drift, large standard deviation, scattered data points, and poor reproducibility. To address these problems, mercapto-hexanol or similar alkanethiols are usually considered as blocking agents. The aim of the present paper is to investigate new blocking agents to further improve DNA probe surfac

3D integration can alleviate routing congestion, reducing the wirelength and improving performances. Nevertheless, each TSV still occupies non-negligible silicon area: as the number of TSV increases, their effect on the chip routing is detrimental. The red ...

A novel real-time implementation of a multi-resolution image blending algorithm is presented in this paper. A multi-resolution decomposition of the input is used to blend multiple images at different scales. Processing time is shortened by designing a pipe ...

In biological applications and systems where even the smallest details have a meaning, CCD cameras are mostly preferred and they hold most of the market share despite their high costs. In this paper, we propose a custom-designed CMOS camera to compete with ...

This paper presents a low-power single-channel 8-bit loop-unrolled (LU) successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital-converter (ADC) with a novel common-mode adaptive background comparator offset calibration scheme. LU-SAR ADCs use multiple co ...

With increasing modulation order, a larger number of parallel source-series-terminated (SST) segments are required to implement precise feedforward equalization (FFE) tap-weight control in SST transmitters (TX). Due to the data routing complexity of the se ...

In this work, MOS Current Mode Logic (MCML) is analyzed for low power, low noise, mixed signal applications demanding high security such as embedded cryptographic processors and smart cards. We emphasize the possible extension of MCML gate usage for low sp ...

Several nanowire technologies have emerged recently, providing a way to continue the scaling down of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The opportunities offered at the level of logic circuit design depend on the technology properti ...

Several technologies with sub-lithographic features are targeting the fabrication of crossbar memories in which the nanowire decoder is playing a major role. In this paper, we suggest a way to reduce the decoder size and keep it defect tolerant by using mu ...

The dominance of conduction and the negligible effect of gravity, and hence free convection, are verified in the case of microscale heat sources surrounded by air at atmospheric pressure. A list of temperature-dependent heat transfer coefficients is provid ...

A cell-electrode interface noise model is developed which is dedicated to enable the co-simulation of the cell-electrode electrical characteristics, along with the electronics of novel CMOS-based MEA. The electrode noise is investigated for Pt and Pt black ...

This paper presents a robust electrochemical detection system composed of microfabricated electrodes and a potentiostat circuit developed for quantitative detection of biomolecules by cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. Compared to electrochemical cells employing external counter electrodes (CE) and polymer passivation layers, this system offers more reliable and stable operation owing to on-chip Pt CE and very stable oxide passivation layer, withstanding aggressive cleaning techniques and chemicals invol

Self-heating effects became more prominent with the introduction of the modern devices like FDSOI and low thermal conductivity materials such as SiO2. Consequently, the design of high speed digital circuits which are the time-critical blocks of high perfor ...

The jitter and the phase noise of ring oscillators utilizing subthreshold source-coupled logic (STSCL) style are analyzed in this paper. Closed-form equations are derived to predict the jitter and phase noise caused by white and flicker noise. Measurement ...

A three-dimensional tip electrode array technology for in-vitro electrophysiological experiments is presented. Based on simulation results obtained with a finite element model of the neuron-electrode interface, it has been shown that the electrical couplin ...
