Develop in your group a solid approach to one or more philosophical problems of that debate. Defend your analysis and conclusions. Philosophy of biology HUM-216 Identify and understand central issues in the philosophy of biology, notably about biological evolution and the emergence of life. Evaluate and compare crucial arguments in the debates. Sy
Nicolas ThomäTeaching & PhD PhD Students David Domjan, Pierre Alexander Miranda Herrera, Laurin Tim Kanis, Alessandro Minafra, Pau Reolid Coll Courses Practical - Thomä Lab BIO-624 Expression and purification of recombinant proteins are key methods in our lab studying protein machines on a structural level and ways in which they can be reprogrammed by small molecules. In the course, we will express and purify proteins and biophysically characterise them. Trends in chemical biology and drug discovery
Milena Maria SchuhmacherResearchSchuhmacher Lab & Chemical and Membrane Biology It's all about the lipids: In the Schuhmacher Lab we are interested in answering outstanding questions in membrane biology. Our chemical biology approach opens the door to investigate the so far mostly invisible and thus secret work of lipids. In particular, we would like to understand the biological role of lipid diversity and their impact on signaling processes.

Mission
As project manager at EPFL School of Continuing Education, Théodore Besson dévelops an international programme of continuing education on Industrial Ecology, in close collaboration with the University of Lausanne and Prof. Suren Erkman. This programme targets all professionals of the various and interdisciplinary fields of environment and also top managers and decision makers, coming both from publi
Romain ZuffereyTeaching & PhD Courses Biology for engineers MSE-212 This course consists of an introduction to biology and more particularly to biology as a multidisciplinary field, emphasizing natural examples of materials engineering. It should therefore allow engineering students to find inspiration from biology in future materials research problems. Cellular biology and biochemistry for engineers BIO-105 Basic course in biochemistry as well as cellular and molecular biology for non-life

Stewart ColeProfessor Stewart Cole is an international authority in bacterial molecular-genetics and genomics. He has made outstanding contributions in several fields including: bacterial anaerobic electron transport; genome analysis of retroviruses and papillomaviruses; antibiotic resistance mechanisms; and the molecular microbiology of toxigenic clostridia. His studies on isoniazid and multidrug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, together with his pioneering work on the pathogenicity, evolution and genomics of the tubercle and leprosy bacilli, have made him an undisputed leader in the field of mycobacterial research. The findings of his research are of direct relevance to public health and disease-control in both the developing world and the industrialised nations. He has published over 250 scientific papers and review articles, and holds many patents.
Anne-Florence Raphaëlle BitbolI was trained in physics, and always had a strong interest in biology. I am broadly interested in understanding biological phenomena in a quantitative way, through physical concepts and mathematical and computational tools. I investigate the relative impacts of optimization and historical contingency in biological evolution, both at the scale of protein sequences and at the scale of microbial populations. Here is my research group website.Curriculum vitae Here is my complete CV.
