Error estimates for SUPG-stabilised Dynamical Low Rank Approximations

Fabio Nobile, Thomas Simon Spencer Trigo Trindade

We perform an error analysis of a fully discretised Streamline Upwind Petrov Galerkin Dynamical Low Rank (SUPG-DLR) method for random time-dependent advection-dominated problems. The time integration scheme has a splitting-like nature, allowing for potenti ...

On Speed and Advantage : Results in Information Velocity and Monitoring Problems

Reka Inovan

Information theory has allowed us to determine the fundamental limit of various communication and algorithmic problems, e.g., the channel coding problem, the compression problem, and the hypothesis testing problem. In this work, we revisit the assumptions ...

A Generalized Adjusted Min-Sum Decoder for 5G LDPC Codes: Algorithm and Implementation

Andreas Peter Burg, Yifei Shen, Yuqing Ren, Hassan Harb

5G New Radio (NR) has stringent demands on both performance and complexity for the design of low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding algorithms and corresponding VLSI implementations. Furthermore, decoders must fully support the wide range of all 5G NR bl ...

Hitting with Probability One for Stochastic Heat Equations with Additive Noise

Robert Dalang

We study the hitting probabilities of the solution to a system of d stochastic heat equations with additive noise subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that for any bounded Borel set with positive (d-6)\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{ ...

Time vs. Truth: Age-Distortion Tradeoffs and Strategies for Distributed Inference

Yunus Inan

In 1948, Claude Shannon laid the foundations of information theory, which grew out of a study to find the ultimate limits of source compression, and of reliable communication. Since then, information theory has proved itself not only as a quest to find the ...

Low Power LDPC Decoding by Reliable Voltage Down-Scaling

Andreas Peter Burg

Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) decoder is among the power hungry building blocks of wireless communication systems. Voltage scaling down to Near-Threshold (NT) voltages substantially improves energy efficiency, in theory up 10x. However, tuning the voltag ...

On the (Im)possibility of Commitment over Gaussian Unfair Noisy Channels

Anuj Kumar Yadav

Commitment is a key primitive which resides at the heart of several cryptographic protocols. Noisy channels can help realize information-theoretically secure commitment schemes; however, their imprecise statistical characterization can severely impair such ...

Quantization for Decentralized Learning Under Subspace Constraints

Ali H. Sayed, Stefan Vlaski, Roula Nassif

In this article, we consider decentralized optimization problems where agents have individual cost functions to minimize subject to subspace constraints that require the minimizers across the network to lie in low-dimensional subspaces. This constrained fo ...
