How Integrated are Credit and Equity Markets? Evidence from Index Options

We study the extent to which credit index (CDX) options are priced consistent with S&P 500 (SPX) equity index options. We derive analytical expressions for CDX and SPX options within a structural credit-risk model with stochastic volatility and jumps using ...

Closed form approximation methods for portfolio valuation and risk management

Lotfi Boudabsa

In this thesis we present three closed form approximation methods for portfolio valuation and risk management. The first chapter is titled ``Kernel methods for portfolio valuation and risk management'', and is a joint work with Damir Filipovi'c (SFI and ...

Exchange options with stochastic liquidity risk

Puneet Pasricha

In this article, we account for the liquidity risk in the underlying assets when pricing European exchange options, which has not been considered in the literature. An Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process with the mean -reversion property is selected to model the ma ...

Skew-Brownian motion and pricing European exchange options br

Puneet Pasricha

This article derives a closed-form pricing formula for European exchange options under a non-Gaussianframework for the underlying assets, intending to resolve mispricing associated with a geometric Brownianmotion. The dynamics of each of the two correlated ...

Illiquidity and Higher Cumulants

Semyon Malamud, Alberto Mokak Teguia

We characterize the unique equilibrium in an economy populated by strategic CARA investors who trade multiple risky assets with arbitrarily distributed payoffs. We use our explicit solution to study the joint behavior of illiquidity of option contracts. Op ...

Covariance Estimation for Random Surfaces beyond Separability

Tomas Masák

This thesis focuses on non-parametric covariance estimation for random surfaces, i.e.~functional data on a two-dimensional domain. Non-parametric covariance estimation lies at the heart of functional data analysis, and considerations of statistical and com ...

Essays in Banking and Financial Regulation

Susanne Johanna Petronella Léonie Vissers

This thesis examines how banks choose their optimal capital structure and cash reserves in the presence of regulatory measures. The first chapter, titled Bank Capital Structure and Tail Risk, presents a bank capital structure model in which bank assets ...

A term structure model for dividends and interest rates

Damir Filipovic, Sander Félix M Willems

Over the last decade, dividends have become a standalone asset class instead of a mere side product of an equity investment. We introduce a framework based on polynomial jump-diffusions to jointly price the term structures of dividends and interest rates. ...

Informed Trading in the Stock Market and Option Price Discovery

Pierre Collin-Dufresne

When activist shareholders file Schedule 13D filings, the average excess return on target stocks is 6% and stock price volatility drops by about 10%. Prior to filing days, volatility (price) information is reflected in option (stock) prices. Using a compre ...

Polynomial Jump-Diffusion Models

Damir Filipovic, Martin Larsson

We develop a comprehensive mathematical framework for polynomial jump-diffusions in a semimartingale context, which nest affine jump-diffusions and have broad applications in finance. We show that the polynomial property is preserved under polynomial trans ...

Low-Rank Tensor Approximation for Chebyshev Interpolation in Parametric Option Pricing

Daniel Kressner, Francesco Statti, Kathrin Beatrice Glau

Treating high dimensionality is one of the main challenges in the development of computational methods for solving problems arising in finance, where tasks such as pricing, calibration, and risk assessment need to be performed accurately and in real-time. ...

Pricing interest rate, dividend, and equity risk

Sander Félix M Willems

This thesis studies the valuation and hedging of financial derivatives, which is fundamental for trading and risk-management operations in financial institutions. The three chapters in this thesis deal with derivatives whose payoffs are linked to interest ...

Numerical methods for option pricing: polynomial approximation and high dimensionality

Francesco Statti

Options are some of the most traded financial instruments and computing their price is a central task in financial mathematics and in practice. Consequently, the development of numerical algorithms for pricing options is an active field of research. In gen ...

The CDS-bond basis

Pierre Collin-Dufresne

We investigate the cross-sectional variation in the credit default swap (CDS)-bond bases and test explanations for the violation of the arbitrage relation between cash bond and CDS contract, which states that the basis should be zero in normal conditions. ...

Linear credit risk models

Damir Filipovic, Damien Edouard Ackerer

We introduce a novel class of credit risk models in which the drift of the survival process of a firm is a linear function of the factors. The prices of defaultable bonds and credit default swaps (CDS) are linear-rational in the factors. The price of a CDS ...

Option pricing with orthogonal polynomial expansions

Damir Filipovic, Damien Edouard Ackerer

We derive analytic series representations for European option prices in polynomial stochastic volatility models. This includes the Jacobi, Heston, Stein-Stein, and Hull-White models, for which we provide numerical case studies. We find that our polynomial ...

A New Approach For American Option Pricing: The Dynamic Chebyshev Method

Kathrin Beatrice Glau

We introduce a new method to price American options based on Chebyshev interpolation. In each step of a dynamic programming time-stepping we approximate the value function with Chebyshev polynomials. The key advantage of this approach is that it allows us ...

Equilibrium Models for Derivatives Markets with Frictions

Yuan Zhang

This thesis develops equilibrium models, and studies the effects of market frictions on risk-sharing, derivatives pricing, and trading patterns. In the chapter titled "Imbalance-Based Option Pricing", I develop an equilibrium model of fragmented options m ...

The Jacobi stochastic volatility model

Damien Edouard Ackerer

We introduce a novel stochastic volatility model where the squared volatility of the asset return follows a Jacobi process. It contains the Heston model as a limit case. We show that the joint density of any finite sequence of log-returns admits a Gram–Cha ...

On the American swaption in the linear-rational framework

Damir Filipovic

We study American swaptions in the linear-rational (LR) term structure model introduced in Filipović et al. [J. Finance., 2017, 72, 655–704]. The American swaption pricing problem boils down to an optimal stopping problem that is analytically tractable. It ...
