Connectivity between the hyporheic zone and the flow is essential for the development of benthos and the reproductive success of spawning fish. The infiltration of fine sediment leads to clogging of the riverbed, reducing porosity and vertical water exchan ...

A novel automated method based on sequential injection analysis (SIA), a non-segmented flow injection technique, was developed to evaluate glutathione S-transferase P1-1 (GST P1-1) activity in the presence of organometallic complexes with putative anticanc ...

The use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has surged in the last two decades, making them popular instruments for a wide range of applications, and leading to a remarkable number of scientific contributions in geoscience, remote sensing and engineering. H ...

The biophysical modeling efforts in diffusion MRI have grown considerably over the past 25 years. In this review, we dwell on the various challenges along the journey of bringing a biophysical model from initial design to clinical implementation, identifyi ...

Amatoxins are ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified bicyclic octapeptides biosynthesized by the deadly basidiomycete fungus Amanita phalloides. Amongst this group, alpha-amanitin is the most widely known toxin and is currently under inv ...

This paper summarizes the round-table discussion that was held during the European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE) in Nice, France, in October 2015 on this topic. The panellists come from different fields of chemical engineering and have thus broug ...

Understanding how small molecules interact with DNA is essential since it underlies a multitude of pathological conditions and therapeutic interventions. Many different intercalator compounds have been studied because of their activity as mutagens or drugs ...

Interest in the medicinal properties of ruthenium(II)-arene compounds has grown rapidly over the last decade. In this account we describe the origins of the field and subsequently highlight developments in the field, including the design of compounds that ...

Several groups working in the field of the development of new antituberculosis drugs have recently reported active compounds targeting mycobacterial enzyme DprE1. Along with its counterpart, DprE2, it catalyses a unique epimerization reaction resulting in ...

This paper discusses the Moldovan ‘scientific diaspora’ made up of students, researchers and those engaged in professional activities abroad, and their propensity to either return or engage in home-country development initiatives. Moldova has suffered a sig ...

Network industries, such as electricity, railways and air transport, are very complex technical, economic, and political systems in which the alignment between technology and institutions has a significant impact on performance. This alignment has been stu ...

The development of molecular probes to visualize cellular processes is an important challenge in chemical biology. One possibility to create such cellular indicators is based on the selective labeling of proteins with synthetic probes in living cells. Over ...

Easy does it: The unique properties of benziodoxolone alkynyl periodinane 1 and gold catalysts have allowed the development of a high yielding, operationally simple (room temperature, no dry solvents or inert conditions, commercially available catalyst) re ...

Hexofuranosides are widely spread in nature, and notably in numerous pathogenic microorganisms. This particular five-membered ring for hexosides leads to novel biological properties and, as usual in glycochemistry, to completely different reactivity and se ...

A review. The systematic development of the RAPTA family of organometallic ruthenium(II) anticancer drugs contg. a monodentate 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphatricyclo-[3.3.1.1]decane ligand and a h6-arene ligand is described. ...

The present invention relates to organometallic compounds useful in the treatment of metastasis. The organometallic compounds comprise a ligand that is convalently bound to a bioactive compound, which is an inhibitor of a resistance pathway or a derivative ...

A review. This review describes a concept aimed at rational and maximal structure proliferation. To this end, simple arom. or heterocyclic starting materials, often bulk chems., are converted into all regioisomerically possible polar organometallic interme ...

This paper is aimed at introducing the organometallic chemist to the fascinating area of organometallic pharmaceuticals. It commences by identifying the properties of organometallic (transition metal) compounds that lend themselves to medical applications. ...
