We report on the design and characterization of two inductive proximity sensors based on LC oscillators operating at 500 MHz. The distance from the target is obtained by measuring the oscillation frequency variation. Both sensors contain an off-chip LC res ...

With the advent of data science, the analysis of network or graph data has become a very timely research problem. A variety of recent works have been proposed to generalize neural networks to graphs, either from a spectral graph theory or a spatial perspec ...

Randomized trace estimation is a popular and well-studied technique that approximates the trace of a large-scale matrix B by computing the average of x(T) Bx for many samples of a random vector X. Often, B is symmetric positive definite (SPD) but a number ...

SporTran is a Python utility designed to estimate generic transport coefficients in extended systems, based on the Green-Kubo theory of linear response and the recently introduced cepstral analysis of the current time series generated by molecular dynamics ...

Time-synchronization attacks on phasor measurement units (PMUs) pose a real threat to smart grids; it was shown that they are feasible in practice and that they can have a nonnegligible negative impact on state estimation, without triggering the bad data d ...

The feedback sum-rate capacity is established for the symmetric three-user Gaussian multiple-access channel (GMAC). The main contribution is a converse bound that combines the dependence-balance argument of Hekstra and Willems (1989) with a variant of the ...

This paper describes an all-digital backscatter modulation approach leveraging delta-sigma modulation (DSM) to improve the in-channel spectral characteristics of orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) backscatter communication. We demonstrate thr ...

We develop a primal-dual convex minimization framework to solve a class of stochastic convex three-composite problem with a linear operator. We consider the cases where the problem is both convex and strongly convex and analyze the convergence of the propo ...

Experiments have shown that healthy subjects can detect materials solely relying on the material's thermal properties at their fingertip. We are interested in developing a non-invasive temperature display for sensory substitution for patients with arm ampu ...

A 4 GHz, 100 kb/s FM-UWB transceiver for short-range communications in a body area network is presented. Two receivers and a transmitter use the same RF port with a fully-integrated matching network. The first receiver provides multi-user communication cap ...

Inverse reconstruction from images is a central problem in many scientific and engineering disciplines. Recent progress on differentiable rendering has led to methods that can efficiently differentiate the full process of image formation with respect to mi ...

The exponential growth of Internet traffic and related demands for higher communication speed pushes processor-to-processor and processor-to-memory interconnects to provide further higher data-rate. Often time, processor-to-memory interconnectsâ speed is ...

We demonstrate optical frequency comb generation in hybrid high-Q optical microresonators fabricated using direct wafer bonding of photonic Damascene silicon nitride wafer with thin-film lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI). The devices enable direct phase ...

For a two-user Gaussian multiple access channel, computation codes are designed for the scenarios where the decoder is not interested in decoding the two codewords, but only the sum of them. It has been observed that good computation codes should possess s ...

Attaching rigid wearables to ones skin may be socially challenging to be accustomed since their wearers may feel vulnerable with compromising their privacy, especially if the device is for tracking neurological or medical conditions. The development of fle ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme with inter-symbol interference (ICI) reduction property for multi-drop memory interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TD ...

Spectral imaging is a fundamental diagnostic technique with widespread application. Conventional spectral imaging approaches have intrinsic limitations on spatial and spectral resolutions due to the physical components they rely on. To overcome these physi ...

The paper describes a novel implementation of the piecewise linear interface-capturing volume-of-fluid method (PLIC-VOF) in axisymmetric cylindrical coordinates. The principal innovative feature involved in this work is that both the forward and inverse re ...

A time-division multiplexing (TDM) digital channel coding scheme for wireline multi-drop interfaces has been proposed. Shaping the TX spectrum to avoid channel frequency notches, the proposed digital TDM signaling reduces inter-symbol interference (ISI) an ...

Information theory is the field in which we study the fundamental limitations of communication. Shannon proved in 1948 that there exists a maximum rate, called capacity, at which we can reliably communicate information through a given channel. However, Sha ...
