Network information theory studies the communication of information in a network and considers its fundamental limits. Motivating from the extensive presence of the networks in the daily life, the thesis studies the fundamental limits of particular network ...

The usefulness of lattice codes is investigated for two-user Gaussian interference channels (IC). A coding scheme based on the compute-and-forward technique is shown to achieve the capacity region of the Gaussian IC under strong interference. The proposed ...

The current study uses knowledge from digital architecture, computer science, engineering informatics, and structural engineering to formulate an algorithmic framework for integrated Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) of Integ ...

We establish the existence of wave-like solutions to spatially coupled graphical models which, in the large size limit, can be characterized by a 1-D real-valued state. This is extended to a proof of the threshold saturation phenomenon for all such models, ...

In this paper we study Weingarten surfaces and explore their potential for fabrication-aware design in freeform architecture. Weingarten surfaces are characterized by a functional relation between their principal curvatures that implicitly defines approxim ...

A new achievable rate region is given for the Gaussian cognitive many-to-one interference channel. The proposed novel coding scheme is based on the compute-and-forward approach with lattice codes. Using the idea of decoding sums of codewords, our scheme im ...

Constructed in 1969, the Chillon viaducts constitute a vital component of the Swiss roadway network. The bridge deck was strengthened in 2015 by means of an Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cement-based Composite for alleviating the effects of deter ...

Despite the huge complexity of the foreign body reaction, a quantitative assessment over time of the scar tissue thickness around implanted materials is needed to figure out the evolution of neural implants for long times. A data-driven approach, based on ...

Lattice codes are applied to the two-user Gaussian multiple access channel (MAC) combined with a modified compute-and-forward transmitting scheme. It is shown that non-corner points on the boundary of the capacity region can be achieved by decoding two int ...

High-order numerical solvers for conservation laws suffer from Gibbs phenomenon close to discontinuities, leading to spurious oscillations and a detrimental effect on the solution accuracy. A possible strategy to reduce it comprises adding a suitable amoun ...

In this paper, we analyze Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access and Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access as alternative physical layer schemes for the up-link of a satellite network. Both orthogonal frequency-division multiple access a ...

We demonstrate high speed optical transmission systems using digital coherent detection at all-electronically multiplexed symbol rates of 80 and 107 Gbaud. At 107 Gbaud, we demonstrate a single-carrier polarization division multiplexed quadrature phase shi ...

A tunable and reconfigurable optical aggregation system is experimentally demonstrated. Optical Nyquist pulses are generated on multiple channels using a microresonator-based Kerr optical frequency comb and insertion of uniform lines by an intensity modula ...

We investigate the problem of secure communication in a simple network with three communicating parties, two distributed sources who communicate over orthogonal channels to one destination node. The cooperation between the sources is restricted to a rate l ...

This letter proposes a general regularization framework for inference over multitask networks. The optimization approach relies on minimizing a global cost consisting of the aggregate sum of individual costs regularized by a term that allows to incorporate ...

In this paper, we consider the K-user Gaussian multiple-access channel with multiple independent additive white Gaussian interferences. Each interference is known to exactly one transmitter non-causally. The capacity region is characterized to within a bou ...

Co-impregnation of vanadia and tungsta on titania produced highly active catalysts for the reduction of nitrogen oxides with ammonia but showed aging tendencies at temperatures around 600 degrees C. In order to preserve their low temperature activity after ...

A simple predictive molecular thermodynamic model for bulk phases and interfaces is presented. The model combines features of the quantitative structure-property relationships (QSPR) approach, the equation-of-state approach, and quantum-chemical calculatio ...

The joint design of input constellation and low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes to approach the symmetric capacity of the two-user Gaussian multiple access channel is studied. More specifically, multilevel coding is employed at each user to construct a h ...

The polynomial Hirsch conjecture states that the vertex-edge diameter of a d-dimensional polyhedron with n facets is bounded by a polynomial in d and n. For the special case where the polyhedron is defined as the set of points satisfying a system Ax ≤ b of ...
