Bridging the "terahertz gap" relies upon synthesizing arbitrary waveforms in the terahertz domain enabling applications that require both narrow band sources for sensing and few-cycle drives for classical and quantum objects. However, realization of custom ...

Coherent ranging, also known as frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) laser-based light detection and ranging (lidar)(1) is used for long-range three-dimensional distance and velocimetry in autonomous driving(2,3). FMCW lidar maps distance to frequenc ...

The ideal laser source for nonlinear terahertz spectroscopy offers large versatility delivering both ultra-intense broadband single-cycle pulses and user-selectable multi-cycle pulses at narrow linewidths. Here we show a highly versatile terahertz laser pl ...

Optical-frequency synthesizers, which generate frequency-stable light from a single microwave-frequency reference, are revolutionizing ultrafast science and metrology, but their size, power requirement and cost need to be reduced if they are to be more wid ...

We introduce a novel industrial grade 193nm continuous-wave laser light source for proximity mask-aligner lithography. A diode seed laser in master-oscillator power-amplification configuraton is frequency-quadrupled using lithiumtriborate and potassium-fluoro ...

We present and discuss Talbot mask-aligner lithography, relying on a continuous wave laser emitting at 193nm for the illumination. In this source, a diode laser at 772nm is amplified by a tapered amplifier in master-oscillator power-amplifier configuration ...

In this article we compare the two-photon photoluminescence and second harmonic generation from single connected gold nanodimers. Analyzing the particle size-dependent nonlinear optical spectra and performing excitation polarization resolved measurements u ...

We demonstrate that images of flux vortices in a superconductor taken with a transmission electron microscope can be used to measure the penetration depth and coherence length in all directions at the same temperature and magnetic field. This is particular ...

Quantum wires with spin-orbit coupling provide a unique opportunity to simultaneously control the coupling strength and the screened Coulomb interactions where new exotic phases of matter can be explored. Here we report on the observation of an exotic spin ...

In digital holographic microscopy (DHM), the long coherence length of laser light causes parasitic interferences due to multiple reflections in and by optical components in the optical path of the microscope and thus degrades the image quality. The parasit ...

A single frequency wafer-fused semiconductor disk laser at 1.56 mu m with 1 watt of output power and a coherence length over 5 km in fiber is demonstrated. The result represents the highest output power reported for a narrow-line semiconductor disk laser o ...

Exciton-polaritons are hybrid quasi-particles, eigenstates of the strong coupling regime between light and matter. Their Bose-Einstein condensation has been recently demonstrated, opening the way to several fundamental investigations on the associated phen ...

In this thesis, we studied the modal structure and the polarization of the optical field emitted by vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) emitting in the short- and long-wavelength domains (0.9-1.3μm). Our study concerns two types of components: ...

Efficient light management is one of the key issues in modern energy conversion systems, be it to collect optical power or to redistribute light generated by high power light emitters. This thesis touches mainly on the subject of efficient light redistribu ...

Since the invention of optical fiber cable data transmission using light has become ubiquitous in the past years. Nonlinear optical effects, which are hardly noticed in our daily life, have become crucial and highly influential for the design and performan ...

In Digital holography Microscopes (DHM) implemented in the so-called "off axis" configuration, the object and reference wave fronts are not co-planar but form an angle of a few degrees. This results into two main drawbacks. First, the contrast of the inter ...

From cosmology to the microscopic scales of the quantum world, the study of topological excitations is essential for the understanding of phase conformation and phase transitions. Quantum fluids are convenient systems to investigate topological entities be ...

We give an overview of the coherence properties of exciton-polariton condensates generated by optical parametric scattering. Different aspects of the first-order coherence (g((1))) have been investigated. The spatial coherence extension of a two-dimensiona ...

Optical Coherence Microscopy (OCM) is a three-dimensional imaging technique that provides cross-sectional views of the subsurface microstructure of biological tissue, with a high axial and lateral resolution. In OCM, a low time coherence light source is sp ...

We perform quantum tomography on one-dimensional polariton condensates, spontaneously occurring in linear disorder valleys in a CdTe planar microcavity sample. By the use of optical interferometric techniques, we determine the first-order coherence functio ...
