The overall performance of fusion devices, such as tokamaks, is strongly correlated to the phenomena that occur in the boundary region, the outer plasma region that faces the wall of the device. The boundary plays a crucial role in regulating the heat and ...

Reduction in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) from National Ignition Facility Hohlraums has been predicted through the use of multi-ion species materials on Hohlraum walls. This approach to controlling SBS is based upon introducing a lighter ion speci ...

Molecule-surface collisions are known to initiate dynamics that lead to products inaccessible by thermal chemistry. These collision dynamics, however, have mostly been examined on bulk surfaces, leaving vast opportunities unexplored for molecular collision ...

Our transportation field has recently witnessed an arms race of neural network-based trajectory predictors. While these predictors are at the core of many applications such as autonomous navigation or pedestrian flow simulations, their adversarial robustne ...

Two-fluid, three-dimensional, flux-driven, global, electromagnetic turbulence simulations carried out by using the GBS (Global Braginskii Solver) code are used to identify the main parameters controlling turbulent transport in the tokamak boundary and to d ...

In this thesis, an experimental study of low-temperature stereodynamics in the reactive scattering of Ne(3P2) + X collisions (X = Ar, Kr, Xe, CO and N2) is presented. The steric effect of Ne(3P2) in these reactions is observed experimentally using a contro ...

Non-adiabatic electron response leads to significant changes in ion temperature gradient (ITG) eigenmodes, leading, in particular, to fine-structures that are significantly extended along the magnetic field lines at corresponding mode rational surfaces (MR ...

Ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions constitute an ideal setup to look for exotic hadrons because of their low event multiplicity and the possibility of an efficient background rejection. We propose to look for fourquark states produced by photon-photon fu ...

Differential cross sections for the charge transfer reaction between Ar(+)and CO have been measured using three-dimensional velocity map imaging in a crossed beam setup at the two relative collision energies 0.55 and 0.74 eV. We find dominant forward scatt ...

We report on an experimental investigation of the low-energy stereodynamics of the energy transfer reactions Ne(3P2) + X, producing Ne(1S) + X+ and [Ne–X]+ (X = N2 or CO). Collision energies in the range 0.2 K–700 K are obtained by using the merged beam te ...

Base-induced elimination (E2) and bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (S(N)2) are two of the most versatile reactions that are important in preparative organic chemistry. These stereospecific reactions are often found in direct competition with each othe ...

Flight through cluttered environments, such as forests, poses great challenges for animals and machines alike because even small changes in flight path may lead to collisions with nearby obstacles. When flying along narrow corridors, insects use the magnit ...

The recent advances in state estimation, perception, and navigation algorithms have significantly contributed to the ubiquitous use of quadrotors for inspection, mapping, and aerial imaging. To further increase the versatility of quadrotors, recent works i ...

We develop a model to investigate the time evolution of the mean location and variance of a random walker subject to Poisson-distributed collisions at constant rate. The collisions are instantaneous velocity changes where a new value of velocity is generat ...

Spin-orbit changing transitions for bond-axis oriented collisions of NO(X) with Ar have been investigated with full quantum state selection via a crossed molecular beam experiment at collision energies of 532 cm(-1) and 651 cm(-1). NO(X) molecules were sel ...

Chronoamperometry was used to study the dynamics of Pt nanoparticle (NP) collision with an inert ultramicroelectrode via electrocatalytic amplification (ECA) towards hydrogen evolution reaction. First, ECA and dynamic light scattering (DLS) results reveal ...

Small-winged drones can face highly varied aerodynamic requirements, such as high manoeuvrability for flight among obstacles and high wind resistance for constant ground speed against strong headwinds that cannot all be optimally addressed by a single aero ...

With current overuse of the road transportation system and planned increase in traffic, inno- vative solutions that overcome environmental and financial cost of the current system should be assessed. A promising idea is the use of the third dimension for p ...

The field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, is rapidly growing, both in terms of size and of number of applications. Civil applications range from mapping, inspection, search and rescue, taking aerial footage, to art show, entertain ...

We study nonlocal effects associated with particle collisions in dense suspension flows, in the context of the Affine Solvent Model, known to capture various aspects of the jamming transition. We show that an individual collision changes significantly the ...
