We develop a framework to construct moduli spaces of Q-Gorenstein pairs. To do so, we fix certain invariants; these choices are encoded in the notion of Q-stable pair. We show that these choices give a proper moduli space with projective coarse moduli spac ...

In this text, we will show the existence of lattice packings in a family of dimensions by employing division algebras. This construction is a generalization of Venkatesh's lattice packing result Venkatesh (Int Math Res Notices 2013(7): 1628-1642, 2013). In ...

This thesis is constituted of one article and three preprints that I wrote during my PhD thesis. Their common theme is the moduli theory of algebraic varieties. In the first article I study the Chow--Mumford line bundle for families of uniformly K-stable F ...

Confounding variables are a recurrent challenge for causal discovery and inference. In many situations, complex causal mechanisms only manifest themselves in extreme events, or take simpler forms in the extremes. Stimulated by data on extreme river flows a ...

Classical Serre-Tate theory describes deformations of ordinary abelian varieties. It implies that every such variety has a canonical lift to characteristic zero and equips the base of its universal deformation with a Frobenius lifting and canonical multipl ...

We formulate gradient-based Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling as optimization on the space of probability measures, with Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence as the objective functional. We show that an under-damped form of the Langevin algorithm perfor ...

We classify simple groups that act by birational transformations on compact complex Kahler surfaces. Moreover, we show that every finitely generated simple group that acts non-trivially by birational transformations on a projective surface over an arbitrar ...

We show that for a large class C of finitely generated groups of orientation preserving homeomorphisms of the real line, the following holds: Given a group G of rank k in C, there is a sequence of k-markings (G,S-n), n is an element of N whose limit in the ...

The Chow-Mumford (CM) line bundle is a functorial line bundle on the base of any family of klt Fano varieties. It is conjectured that it yields a polarization on the moduli space of K-poly-stable klt Fano varieties. Proving ampleness of the CM line bundle ...

For the group of endo-permutation modules of a finite p-group, there is a surjective reduction homomorphism from a complete discrete valuation ring of characteristic 0 to its residue field of characteristic p. We prove that this reduction map always has a ...

We consider the numerical approximation of lipid biomembranes at equilibrium described by the Canham-Helfrich model, according to which the bending energy is minimized under area and volume constraints. Energy minimization is performed via L-2-gradient flo ...

We construct a finitely presented, infinite, simple group that acts by homeomorphisms on the circle, but does not admit a non-trivial action by C1-diffeomorphisms on the circle. This is the first such example. The group emerges as a group of piecewise proj ...

We explore a few algebraic and geometric structures, through certain questions posed by modern cryptography. We focus on the cases of discrete logarithms in finite fields of small characteristic, the structure of isogeny graphs of ordinary abelian varietie ...

Given a topological modular functor V in the sense of Walker, we construct vector bundles Z (lambda) over bar, over (M) over bar (g,n) whose Chern characters define semi-simple cohomological field theories. This construction depends on a determinati ...

In this work we introduce a theoretical and computational modeling framework for the contractile response of single cells triggered by external mechanical stimuli. The structural response due to the formation and dissociation of stress fibers is modeled fo ...

We examine how, in prime characteristic p, the group of endotrivial modules of a finite group G and the group of endotrivial modules of a quotient of G modulo a normal subgroup of order prime to p are related. There is always an inflation map, but examples ...

Nowadays, one area of research in cryptanalysis is solving the Discrete Logarithm Problem (DLP) in finite groups whose group representation is not yet exploited. For such groups, the best one can do is using a generic method to attack the DLP, the fastest ...

We introduce a notion of xi-stability on the affine grassmannian (SIC) for the classical groups, this is the local version of the xi-stability on the moduli space of Higgs bundles on a curve introduced by Chaudouard and Laumon. We prove that the quotient ( ...

Motivated by the Benjamini-Schramm non-unicity of percolation conjecture we study the following question. For a given finitely generated nonamenable group Gamma, does there exist a generating set S such that the Cayley graph (Gamma, S), without loops and m ...

We describe various classes of infinitely presented groups that are condensation points in the space of marked groups. A well-known class of such groups consists of finitely generated groups admitting an infinite minimal presentation. We introduce here a l ...
