This article presents a design-for-test methodology for embedded memories. The methodology relies on a fully random fault model of post-fabrication errors, which results in a low-overhead test strategy. The methodology's effectiveness is demonstrated on an ...

This book defines and explores the problem of placing the instances of dynamic data types on the components of the heterogeneous memory organization of an embedded system, with the final goal of reducing energy consumption and improving performance. It is ...

Drones have become steadily affordable, which raises privacy and security concerns as well as interest in drone detection systems. On the other hand, drone detection is a challenging task due to small dimensions of drones, difficulty of long-distance detec ...

Many studies on collective animal behavior seek to identify the individual rules that underlie collective patterns. However, it was not until the recent advancements of micro-electronic and embedded systems that scientists were able to create mixed groups ...

In this paper we present the characterization of a calibrated embedded system for quasi real-time lighting computation based on HDR sky monitoring. To quantify its accuracy in lighting computation, we positioned the device in front of a test module with un ...

Today, the majority of control applications in embedded systems, e.g., in the automotive domain, are implemented as software tasks on shared platforms. Ignoring implementation impacts during the design of embedded control systems results in complex timing ...

which can also be embedded into a conjugated oligomeric of polymeric backbone, is proposed for optical and electro optical applications. ...

A theoretical case study on steam generation has been performed. Different methods of producing steam by vapour compression, direct electrical heating, gas heating, heat pumping, use of waste heat, and a mixture thereof, were theoretically analysed. The fi ...

Science instructors from a wide range of disciplines agree that hands-on laboratory components of courses are pedagogically necessary (Freedman, 1997). However, certain shortcomings of current laboratory exercises have been pointed out by several authors ( ...

With scaling of process technologies and worsening of process variations, embedded memories are susceptible to a large number of failure mechanisms making it hard to achieve high yield. In this paper, by bringing together architecture and circuit-level exp ...

The major goal of this research was the development and implementation of a control system able to avoid collisions during the flight for a mini-quadrotor helicopter, based only on its embedded sensors without changing the environment. However, it is impor ...

A large number of vision applications rely on matching keypoints across images. The last decade featured an arms-race towards faster and more robust keypoints and association algorithms: Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), Speed-up Robust Feature (SU ...

TUBULO II is a climbing inspection robot with for inner inspection of boiler tubes. Its locomotion principle is the inchworm type. The adhesion is realized with Magnetic Switchable Device [1]. The inner is able to operate within a tube of inner bore diamet ...

For many real-life applications such as monitoring, mapping, search-and-rescue or ad-hoc communication networks, fleets of flying robots are expected to out-perform existing solutions. Robots can join forces to cover larger areas in less time, act as effic ...

CURVACE aims at designing, developing, and assessing CURVed Artificial Compound Eyes, a radically novel family of vision systems. This innovative approach will provide more efficient visual abilities for embedded applications that require motion analysis i ...

Industrial plants have an abundance of complex and confined areas that require systematic inspection. Maintenance work is necessary to ensure reliability and safety. In many cases, due to either size limitations or high danger, access is impossible to huma ...

This paper reports on a 3 years applied research project dealing with several inspection scenarios of power plants and resulting in many robot prototypes and 3 main achievements. The project is a common effort between industry and university, including ALS ...

When it comes to performance, embedded systems share many problems with their higher-end counterparts. The growing gap between top processor frequency and memory access speed, the memory wall, is one such problem. Driven, in part, by low energy consumption ...

New portable consumer embedded devices must execute multimedia applications (e.g., 3D games, video players and signal processing software, etc.) that demand extensive memory accesses and memory usage at a low energy consumption. Moreover, they must heavily ...

New multimedia embedded applications are becoming increasingly dynamic. Thus, they cannot only rely on static data allocation, and must employ Dynamically-allocated Data Types (DDTs) to store their data and efficiently use the limited physical resources of ...
