Stretchable alternating current electroluminescent (ACEL) devices have a bright future in wearable electronics and soft robotics. Still, their market application is hindered by high operating voltages. The voltage can be reduced by increasing the relative ...

Reciprocal Peer Tutoring (RPT) is a learning paradigm characteristic of collaborative interaction between learners with alternating tutortutee roles. In recent years, robot-assisted language learning (RALL) has gained traction by its wide application for l ...

The objective of this PhD thesis is the development of a microfluidic platform for the real-time measurements of the mechanical properties of biological analytes at the single entity level. The systems developed for these purposes consist of piezoelectrica ...

Lower limb exoskeletons (LLE) are robotic devices developed to assist walk. In the field of healthcare, this technology has been available for almost a decade, yet it still faces important acceptance issues. While LLE were first developed for patients with ...

Thin-film lithium niobate (LNO) has been identified as a promising material platform for enabling high electromechanical coupling and low-loss piezoelectric resonators for filtering applications. In this work, the design and fabrication of fundamental shea ...

Detecting light, photon by photon, has been possible since the 1930s, with the invention of the photomultiplier tube (PMT). However, it is only since the 1970s, that solid-state single-photon detectors have emerged and only since 2003 that a new technology ...

Among numerous thin film synthesis methods, metalorganic chemical vapor deposition performed in a showerhead reactor is the most promising one for broad use in scalable and commercially adaptable two-dimensional material synthesis processes. Adapting the m ...

The field of micro electromechanical systems (MEMS) evolved from the microelectronic industry and the technologies developed to fabricate integrated circuits. As a result, MEMS are commonly fabricated on silicon wafers. The development of MEMS has been dri ...

We present the concept and detailed design of a Smart Slit Assembly for next generation spectrometers, and we experimentally demonstrate operation of an individual 221 mu m x 111 mu m smart slit channel employing a MEMS actuated shutter to continuously mod ...

Like integrated electronics, integrated photonics such as Silicon Photonics benefit from increased device-density on a single chip. Silicon is an excellent material for integrated photonics because its high refractive index allows devices to be made small, ...

Human and animal locomotion are controlled by complex neural circuits, which can also serve as inspiration for designing locomotion controllers for dynamic locomotion in legged robots. We develop a locomotion controller model including a central pattern ge ...

Suspended nanochannel resonators (SNRs) are promising devices able to characterize mass down to the attogram scale, thus being able to detect nanoparticles or biomolecules. In this paper, we present a flexible fabrication process for SNRs based on a sacrif ...

Temperature dependence of the antiferromagnetic resonance spectrum in a thulium orthoferrite (TmFeO3) poly-crystalline sample was studied by transmission spectroscopy in the frequency range of 0.1–0.75 THz and temperature range of 300–670 K, up to its Néel ...

Bioresorbable implantable medical devices show great potential for applications requiring medical care over well-defined periods of time. Such implants naturally degrade and resorb in the body, which eliminates adverse long-term effects or the need for a s ...

Recently, microresonator-based dissipative Kerr soliton frequency combs ( "soliton microcomb " ) have emerged as miniaturized optical frequency combs. So far, soliton microcombs have been realized in many CMOS-compatible material platforms including silico ...

In this Letter, we report and investigate the temperature dependency of various radio frequency (RF) parameters for a fabricated reconfigurable bandstop filter with vanadium dioxide (VO2) switches measured up to 55 GHz. Here, the insulator-to-metal (ITM) a ...

Chirality-induced spin selectivity is evidenced by exciting the spin resonance of radicals in an electrochemical cell where the working electrode is covered with a chiral self-assembled monolayer. Because the electron transfer to and from the paramagnetic ...

In this work, bar- and disk-shaped resonators were fabricated using Al(0.8)4Sc(0.16)N thin film Sensitivity analysis of the resonators' resonance frequencies with respect to the piezoelectric material parameters revealed that resonance analysis can be used ...

We present the world's first backside-illuminated (BSI) single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) based on standard silicon-on-insulator (SOI) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology. This SPAD achieves a good dark count rate (DCR) after backs ...

A single-hole probe was designed to measure steady and periodic flows with high fluctuation amplitudes and with minimal flow intrusion. Because of its high aspect ratio, estimations showed that the probe resonates at a frequency two orders of magnitude low ...
