The pyroresistive response of conductive polymer composites (CPCs) has attracted much interest because of its potential applications in many electronic devices requiring a significant responsiveness to changes in external physical parameters such as temper ...

Modern power distribution systems are experiencing a large-scale integration of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). Their presence complicates the analysis and mitigation of harmonics, whose creation and propagation may be amplified ...

For the European DEMO fusion reactor, several options of the Toroidal Field (TF) coil design were proposed. The winding of the TF coil option 1 is based on React&Wind (RW), Nb3Sn, graded conductors in order to optimize the amount of superconductor accordin ...

The transmission overload after a disturbance poses significant security risk to the power system. Once it happens, an efficient remedial action must be taken to relieve the line overloads as quickly as possible. The line overload mitigation problem become ...

Particle accelerators foresee the use of Nb3Sn in the next generation of dipole magnets. A common design strategy is to grade the coil, i.e., to optimize the quantity of superconductor in the turns with respect to the magnetic field intensity. As a consequ ...

Adjustable robust minimization problems where the objective or constraints depend in a convex way on the adjustable variables are generally difficult to solve. In this paper, we reformulate the original adjustable robust nonlinear problem with a polyhedral ...

This paper proposes a Control by Interconnection design, for a class of constrained Port-Hamiltonian systems, which is based on an associated Model Predictive Control optimization problem. This associated optimization problem allows to consider both state ...

The present invention concerns an elongated capacitive sensor (1) for fluid monitoring. The sensor (1) comprising: a fibre support (5) made of a dielectric material or dielectric composite material; and a first electrode (7, 9) and a second electrode (7, 9 ...

The optical and electrical properties of Ru1-xTixO2 (0

Power distribution systems are experiencing a largescale integration of Converter-Interfaced Distributed Energy Resources (CIDERs). This complicates the analysis and mitigation of harmonics, whose creation and propagation are facilitated by the interaction ...

We study a multiperiod optimal power flow (OPF) problem in unbalanced three-phase radial distribution networks with batteries. To address this problem, we first take the resistance-line battery model that treats lossy batteries by adding resistive lines an ...

In recent years, DC grids have gained momentum due to the advantages they display over their AC counterparts. For instance, high voltage DC grids have been established as the most prominent solution in the underwater power transmission or interconnection o ...

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators (DEAs) require ultra high voltages in the order of several kilo volts to operate. To supply such voltages, a DC-DC flyback converter topology was selected. One of the main advantage of using such a structure is the possibilit ...

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have proven to be a robust power source for efficiently converting environmental mechanical energy into electricity. Triboelectric technology experienced substantial growth in the past few years, especially in the field ...

Polymer-derived ceramics (PDC) have recently gained increased interest in the field of bioceramics. Among PDC's, carbon-rich silicon oxycarbide ceramics (SiOC) possess good combined electrical and mechanical properties. Their durability in aggressive envir ...

Recent trends in shipboard power distribution network design, such as the transition from AC to DC result in new challenges on the issue of distribution network protection. Devices such as a solid state bus tie switch provide a first line of defence agains ...

This paper considers unbalanced multiphase distribution systems with generic topology and different load models, and extends the Z-bus iterative load-flow algorithm based on a fixed-point interpretation of the AC load-flow equations. Explicit conditions fo ...

We derive the branch ampacity constraint associated to power losses for the convex optimal power flow (OPF) model based on the branch flow formulation. The branch ampacity constraint derivation is motivated by the physical interpretation of the transmissio ...

The scope of this thesis encompasses two main subjects: fixed-structure data-driven control design on one side, and control design in power systems on the other. The overall goal is to identify challenging and relevant problems in power systems, to express ...

In the last decade, the massive penetration of Distributed Generators (DGs) has brought significant technical challenges to all the aspects related to the planning and operation of distribution networks. Thus, smart grid concept has evolved as a new operat ...
