Robotic manipulators often face challenges in handling objects of different sizes and materials, limiting their effectiveness in practical applications. This issue is particularly pronounced when manipulating meter-scale objects or those with varying stiff ...

For a general multicriteria decision problem with linear scalarization and unknown weights, we propose relatively robust decisions, which are Pareto-efficient and at the same time maximize a performance index. The latter measures the worst-case ratio, atta ...

In light of the challenges posed by climate change and the goals of the Paris Agreement, electricity generation is shifting to a more renewable and decentralized pattern, while the operation of systems like buildings is increasingly electrified. This calls ...

Stabilizing liquid-liquid interfaces, whether between miscible or immiscible liquids, is crucial for a wide range of applications, including energy storage, microreactors, and biomimetic structures. In this study, a versatile approach for stabilizing the w ...

The combination of palladium salts and bipyridyl ligands can lead to the formation of a large variety of coordination complexes, with different shapes and sizes, displaying a very versatile host-guest chemistry. Increasing their structural complexity remai ...

The occurrence of manufacturing defects in wind turbine blade (WTB) production can result in significant increases in operation and maintenance costs of WTBs, reduce capacity factors of wind farms, and occasionally lead to severe and disastrous consequence ...

Robots outside of the fenced factories have to deal with continuously changing environment, this requires fast and flexible modes of control. Planning methods or complex learning models can find optimal paths in complex surroundings, but they are computati ...

Modular robotics link the reliability of a centralised system with the adaptivity of a decentralised system. It is difficult for a robot with a fixed shape to be able to perform many different types of tasks. As the task space grows, the number of functi ...

We introduce an algorithm to reconstruct a mesh from discrete samples of a shape's Signed Distance Function (SDF). A simple geometric reinterpretation of the SDF lets us formulate the problem through a point cloud, from which a surface can be extracted wit ...

Coarse-Grain Reconfigurable Arrays (CGRAs) represent emerging low-power architectures designed to accelerate Compute-Intensive Loops (CILs). The effectiveness of CGRAs in providing acceleration relies on the quality of mapping: how efficiently the CIL is c ...

Predicting the evolution of systems with spatio-temporal dynamics in response to external stimuli is essential for scientific progress. Traditional equations-based approaches leverage first principles through the numerical approximation of differential equ ...

Dynamical system (DS) based motion planning offers collision-free motion, with closed-loop reactivity thanks to their analytical expression. It ensures that obstacles are not penetrated by reshaping a nominal DS through matrix modulation, which is construc ...

We propose a structured prediction approach for robot imitation learning from demonstrations. Among various tools for robot imitation learning, supervised learning has been observed to have a prominent role. Structured prediction is a form of supervised le ...

In the current era of big data, aggregation queries on high-dimensional datasets are frequently utilized to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and correlations critical for effective business decision-making. Data cubes facilitate such queries by employing p ...

We address multi-robot safe mission planning in uncertain dynamic environments. This problem arises in several applications including safety-critical exploration, surveillance, and emergency rescue missions. Computation of a multi-robot optimal control pol ...

Two prominent categories for achieving coordinated multirobot displacement are flocking and navigation in formation. Both categories have their own body of literature and characteristics, including their respective advantages and disadvantages. While typic ...

In this thesis, we give new approximation algorithms for some NP-hard problems arising in resource allocation and network design. As a resource allocation problem, we study the Santa Claus problem (also known as the MaxMin Fair Allocation problem) in which ...

Adiabatic quantum-flux parametron (AQFP) is an energy-efficient superconducting technology. Buffer and splitter (B/S) cells must be inserted to an AQFP circuit to meet the technology-imposed constraints on path balancing and fanout branching. These cells a ...

As historical stone masonry structures are vulnerable and prone to damage in earthquakes, investigating their structural integrity is important to reduce injuries and casualties while preserving their historical value. Stone masonry is a composite material ...

The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is an important technology for clean power generation in a decarbonized hydrogen system and is notably envisioned for applications in heavy-duty transportation. However, for cost and performance competitivenes ...
